Dear family and friends,

A diver passed and cleaned the bottom. The boat is moving nicely. I would like to keep it that way as long as possible.

If I make the boat move for an hour or two at hull speed twice a week will that keep barnacles away for some time? My theory is that slime could wear off if boat is moving every third day.
Any opinion on this? How often you guys moving your boats? I can definitely see the differences between boats which are moving and racing on weekly basis and the boats moored around me without any movements. Thank you very much for your help.

The barnacle spawn just moves in the current. The more current there is through wherever the boat is moored the more chance there is you will get barnacles. If you have other boats or wharf piles up stream with barnacles then you will get barnacles. The trick is to wipe them off while they are tiny with out removing too much ablative anti-foul.
They will grow faster on the sunlit side!

Hi Serb.
I am here to back up Ramona (again.)
Ablative antifouling paints rely on water flow across the surface of the paint to etch away microns and fouling.
Large vessels are on the move 90% of their lives. So the antifouling is very effective.
Also, these vessels are moving fast ( you know about hull speed).
Our boats spend most of their lives just sitting and when they do move it is not really fast enough to scour away that layer of paint.

I think you mentioned that you have CopperCote, not really sure anyway, regularly wiping away the slime and small barnacles is the best way to keep you hull clean, the growth under control and your hull speed up.

As an aside barnacle in Japanese is Fuji tsubo. Mt Fuji blister.
The little bastards do look like little volcanoes, don't they.
