Hi all, looking for advise / ideas

recently bought a 2011 Bavaria 32 cruiser. Damn happy and will be doing a few things before heading up to Queensland earliest next year. So my question is as follows. Surprisingly the boat only has 1 house battery. Separate starter batt of course. I will need to beef the system up. Would you folk go for 2 or 3 house batteries????..I will be living aboard for extended periods

Cheers in advance

Go for as many amp hours as you can fit in / afford. Lithium preferred!!

Then go for as big a solar array as you can fit / afford to keep them charged.

You can never have enough amp hours - especially if living aboard!!

I have 560 Ah lithium charged by 1200w of solar & would like more!! Hasn't been a lot of sun in NSW lately & only just keeping batteries charged running fridge, freezer & PC full time using only solar. I nearly started the engine today but the sun came out for a bit.

Good on you ! 1st things 1st you are going to have to calculate how much power you will require, look on the compliance plate of all your equipment and add up the required wattage, then convert that to amps and from that you will know how many amp hours you will need , so then you will be able to decide on the appropriate battery size ( in amp hrs) and then a charging regime to suit. It might sound complicated but it is not really, start at the beginning how much power will I need ? ( wide screen TVs and coffee machines are power hungry)

Check out Pacific Yacht Systems on You tube. Hours and hours of content about marine electrics.

Congrats Gulnare!
Make sure your wiring matches your current draw.
I was fixing a remote push button windlass a couple of weeks ago and the DC bus cable to the batteries was getting uncomfortably hot every time he used it.
Lithium would be awesome for the weight saving and discharge rate, but man, are they still expensive.
