So normally I go to Edcon steel but they don't carry anything thicker than 25mm at least not in Brookvale. They have a variety of blocks of different sizes one of which was pretty much exactly what I wanted 165 by 205 by 65mm. Quite reasonable at $85 although I was shocked at the weight of such a relatively small item in aluminium which was 6 kilos but felt heavier.
Now just have to find a reasonably priced machine shop and somewhere to get it anodised.
Bit of a nostalgic trip down there as it turns out that it is the same building that used to house Hutton Yachts and where I visited many times in 1981 to watch the Hutton 28 that I commissioned being built.
