Can anyone tell me the stats on a Flinders 7.8 like displacement ballast ratio etc how well they sail comfort ratio etc.I can't find anything on sailboatdata or John crawford marine. Maybe there is something about them elsewhere.
Prior post here gave it a good concise review but no displ or ballast ratio details

This link indicated 3000kg dry weight but it is not clear if this includes the trailer............seems a lot for a 7.8m yacht...........albeit a 14hp diesel is included by the look of it.............data from these sort of listings can't always be relied upon..........

This one has 8hp Yanmar...........a chunky little yacht.............

Perhaps you could call one or both of the above listings to get weighbridge masses? Getting the centreboard mass could be by estimation of volume of all material it is made from? It might be part timber and grp, part metal ballast encased in the grp.
For a comparison here is a Mottle 820 in trailer sailer format - which I didn't realise any were made in this format - which lists 2260kg on trailer, trailer alone 620kg. So the yacht alone 1640kg. Again these figures might not be reliable but 1640kg for a 7.8m trailer sailer seems very plausible. It is a swing keel for this 820 and assume the F7.8. Suggest check the swing keel raising / lowering complete system including securing pin etc.

The Trailersailerplace forum comment in the above link and the cbh rating of .648 indicate they are 'slow and steady' type boats rather than racers. The diesel inboard also indicates serious cruising intentions.
Having said that the sportboats often have high ballest ratios (bulb) keel so you never can tell.
Thanks 13 and MM...Theres not much info on these ...had a look at one today...lift keel ... inboard motor has been removed ..too big and too heavy for me and.too pricey.. and have decided to let it go...still looking for a GOOD Trailer Sailer in WA...there arnt that many Im afraid....

There always seem to be heaps of tempting trailer sailers for sale in WA. Depends on how you define a trailer sailer. The Flinders 7.8 is not really a trailer sailer. more a portable yacht. I would hate having to launch it once a week!
There are a lot of shallow draught fixed keeler style of trailer sailers in WA starting with Redjackets/Redwitch and up. I particularly like the Sorceror 21 in the lifting keel configuration. Here is a 22 foot alloy fixed keeler that looks like a Star 22.

till looking for a GOOD Trailer Sailer in WA
Presumably, you mean good and cheap (old and used). If you want good and you have the money, WA is the home of the new-build Cygnet 20 (one of the very few boats that could tempt me back into trailer-sailers) bwcy.com.au/bluewaterCygnet20.htm
Anyway, all the best with your search and remember to look soberly at the trailer before you even consider the boat on it.

There will be a lifting keel Sorcerer on the market there somewhere. Lifting keel Spacesailers 20 and 22 and lifting keel MB24's and the various Court trailer sailers. WA has the best trailer sailers.
I talked to Bluewater yachts and they were in Cardiff NSW a year ago. Saw a Cygnet on a trailer in Sydney yesterday.

Mate, you just described my life in the year of Covid 2020. Still looking... in the meantime kiting at least gets me out there
PS - I also saw the Flinders 7.8 in Gero. Was tempted but couldn't find enough info on the boat.

Thanks Ramones....I contacted the owner and asked him displacement, draft, ballast ratio etc...He told me it was designed for him by a friend who is a designer ..I think it might be a oneoff.it draws 2ft has a snub keel[nnot wot Im looking for] .... but didnt tell me the weight of it..I wanted to know for towing...I would definitely have to sail it before considering a purchase......and zzzzzzz Aquarius23 looks pretty good..Ill add it to my list of preferred boats....cheers.

Check out Trailer Sailer Place for comments on large trailer sailers on large trailers. A recurring comment for large trailer sailers is that the cost of retrofitting break-away brakes is high, and owners frequently sell cheap to avoid the cost of the upgrade. This trailer looks like it needs break-away brakes.
Also, my recurring comment on trailer-sailers - look at the trailer before looking at the boat. A trailer sailer without a road-legal trailer is practically worthless.
