The original post is too old. It can be found here: www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Sailing/General/Examples-of-yacht-transport-costs?page=1

Recently transported my Cavalier 32 from Sydney to Geelong with a well known transport company.

Costs were:
- Remove mast and put on deck by local shipwright with a mast crane they have. I then had to pack it up, remove rigging etc - $500.
- Lift and put on truck. Had some growth so had to get it pressure sprayed which actually made it really expensive as then I had to pay the environmental levy - $700
- Transport from Sydney to Geelong $3300 inc GST. I was a back load for another boat they were picking up.
- Hire of a crane to get it off the truck and put it in a cradle in Geelong. Then lift mast of deck and reassemble. I did all this myself. $840.
- New mast chocks and tune rigging. About $400
- New Windex. I broke the old one getting it off - $80
- New Tri light. I couldnt get it off in the rain but then it fell off during the trip. The new one is an upgrade - $270

Total - About $5,200.

In hindsight I probably should have just sold the boat and bought a newer, better one. The boat is a bit of a ****ter anyway (but sails really well). To be honest boats just dont like being on a truck. Everything at the back of the boat ended up at the front of the boat even though it was well secured. My pushpit is a bit bent.

Also in hindsight I would have done the following.
- Probably dived the boat and given it a clean in the water before lifting to save the pressure spray and environmental cost.
- Got a rigger to come and take the mast out and package it up properly. I dont appear to have had any damage but I feel it could have easily been damaged. I did have a rigger give me some advice.
- Possibly paid a rigger to put the mast in. Cripes the stress of lifting the mast back into position, having never done it, was incredibly stressful.
- Instead of taking it to Geelong Yacht club and getting a crane I should have taken it to Queenscliffe and used the travel lift to put it in the water. The downside was the truck company were going to charge an extra $500 to get there and then the harbor at Queenscliffe were also more expensive and then I would have needed to get to Geelong in a timely fashion to avoid exorbitant daily berth cost at Queenscliffe.

For $5000 sounds like you got a great deal.

+1 agree.
My costs for a 28' yacht were much the same overall - $3300 for the truck, but doing the mast and the travel lift on each side meant that it came out at about $4500 about 7 years ago. And it was the same quoted price from north Sydney to either Gippsland Lakes or Westernport Bay.
In hindsight, it is cheaper to spend up to 2 weeks sailing it here. Or to pay a delivery skipper

Welcome to Geelong.

I'm on a mooring far away.
Trucked my boat down from Sydney about 5 or so years ago.
I think about $3900 for trucking. Would have been cheaper if waited to back load, but paying for short-term berth up there for any duration would have negated that.
$1300 lift-out and de-rig.
$600 for crane down here and re-rigged myself.
