ciao tigers,
Happy 2022. What would be the best way to decarbonise my yse8?
I sprayed some water into air intake while engine was working max throttle and noticed some blue smoke! After that sprayed some start you bustard into air intake and engine is very responsive now. It feels has more power and doesn't make clanging noise (two metals hitting each other) when cold.
I don't know if water of ether (start you bustard) helped. It feels that start you bustard mad engine more powerful and more quite.

Any opinions or suggestions how to make my yse8 stronger than a jet Mig 31!

Thanks brothers

Carefull there Serb!! Those little diesels can get addicted to those start sprays. Only use if you have to.

Like Ramona says dose your fuel tank with those decarboniser drops. A litre should last a long time.

Got it. I thought start spray will make the compression greater in the combustion chamber and will clean all carbon. The result is great, but I won't use it any more.
Will use the product that Ramona has suggested.
Thanks

Run the fuel tank down so that there is only 10 to 15 litres or so diesel. Add the FTC at the concentrated level as per the instructions and go for a run up the harbour for a couple hours at cruising speed. Vary the speed a bit but generally make sure the engine is under load. This will knock off any bore glaze and clean the rings. Then when you top up the diesel just add the FTC at the recommended rate for use as a fuel conditioner. A couple of tanks like that will be enough. FTC is expensive and the smell from the exhaust is unpleasant so switch back to your normal snake oil conditioner.

IMHO doing those sort of things to a little old motor could prematurely expose normal wear issues. does it burn oil ?
is it easy to start ?
does it blow smoke ? if it don't itch don't scratch it

change the oil with the recommendation oil
change the oil filter and most important change the fuel filters regularly, and there should be but with marine engines not all ways so an air filter, if you got one clean it

Hi,
Thank you . It doesn't smoke, doesn't burn oil, starts like a Serbian mig 29 (first start) it is just a bit tired. Doesn't have oil and air filter. Oil is changed regularly. Now after that start sprey it responds twice better and quicker without any noise when on low rpms...I managed to reach 14km/h with my Tasman 26 with 80% full throttle (more than that is smokes a lot but doesn't go faster)...

Decarbonised with a recommended green liquid. Changed oil ( added 4ml of diesel in oil just before oil change to clean the engine inside). Added a special foam inside the air intake. Now engine in very quiet, still 80% of throttle and 6 knots is there. Over 80% of throttle engine is only smoking more. I feel that propeller is slightly overlitched. But one new thing came up, now when I am trying to push throttle more than 80% the throttle is slowly coming back to that 80%. Very strange but actually excellent because if I accidentally push it to much I will come back where should be. Otherwise engine is smoking black but doesn't go faster. Probably 1 side less in pitch would allow the engine to rev more but I am happy to reach full hull speed with 80% of throttle.

Finally, after all this hassle (changing prop, decarbobnseing, cleaning the air intake) I can cruise quietly with my family around the harbour at 6 to 7 knots of speed.

That expensive green staff really works. Engine is so quiet and on 80% of throttle doesn't smoke at all. Now is very easy to reach hull speed. It makes a big difference to cruise 6 to 7 knots (depends on tigh) and 3 knots (broken propeller ..)

Very very pleased with results, thank you guys very much for your help and suggestions.

I got my offshore gear and I am out soon. Now when i have reliable engine and prop I can sail outside of heads and when weather turns ugly I can put the engine on and run home.

Keep in touch

If your offshore and it turns ugly reef your sails. Even if you furl the headsail completely and reef the main right down to the 2nd reef and motor home you will have a much more comfortable ride with some sail up. Choose an engine rpm that gives a safe pleasant ride versus trying to maintain hull speed.
