Hello tigers,
wires that support the mast on my Tasman are old (The one on the left side is starting to break). I would like to replace them. where to start? Is there any master in Sydney who can do it or is something that I can do with my sailing fellows?
Will 22mm ss316 wire be large enough? Current wire is very thin but I would like to put a tick one just to be safe in the future. Anybody has any idea how many meters of the wire I need? The boat is 26 foots long. I don't have any idea how tall is the mast. It's frictional 3/4 with backs stays. It has two crosses. Feel free to recommend the master in Sydney if you know one and especially if this is a safety issue job.
Thank you.
Hi Serb,
I would consider this to be one of the primary safety issues on any sail boat, especially if one of the shrouds has broken strands. It is also a job that needs to be done by someone with the appropriate skills and experience. If you get this job wrong then you increase the chance of losing the mast over the side instead of decreasing it.
I had Elite Yachting Services (Mona Vale) replace all of the standing and running rigging while I was stuck at Pittwater during the Northern Beaches lockdown. Pete was fantastic and I learnt a tremendous amount about my boat and yacht design in general from him. I'm sure others will know of riggers in Sydney if you don't want to make the trip to Pittwater.
Cheers,
Kinora
