Ceiling panels on my boat were looking a little shabby so I have taken them off and they are 3 ply with what I can only describe as contact or drawer lining material adhered to the underside. The longer panels are 2420 and the maximum width of 740 held up by screwed in teak strips at the edges so no need to screw through the ply.
Can't seem to find a supplier in Sydney or Newcastle for melamine faced 3 ply or even a supplier for a roll of drawer lining material in white of at least 2020 by 750. I can find a supplier in Melbourne but they want 150 bucks delivery.
Bunnings sell 4 mm thick melamine backed by MDF or something which I guess I could use provided I painted the back and edges with epoxy but I would rather use three ply or stick material to my existing 35YO 3 ply panels. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks.
Bills Board factory in Chatswood may be able to help. Depending on what you want to do. If you want to re-laminate, he can supply new laminate, which you could fix to your existing panels. Or you could get them to do the re-laminating for you. Be warned though, to get a good finish, it's a black art.
Or, if you can get the existing material off, which sounds like an old form of contact film, you could apply some new adhesive vinyl. Graphic Art Mart supply plenty of different materials, but laminated car wrap would probably work best. The surface needs to be clean and smooth, because any imperfections will show through the wrap. You would also need to check what fire rating it has.
Lastly, there are fire safe Alumimium Composite panels. They're 3mm thick with a 2mm plastic core and 0.5mm thick skin of aluminium on each side. It can be cut with a router, stanley knife and bent into shape if necessary. Various colours and in matt or gloss. If you do this, be certain it's the fire rated version, otherwise the older material is quite flammable. Sign Sheet Distributors in Penrith? I think.....
There are plenty of suppliers of all this stuff, the above are just who we use for our sign business. I don't have any affiliation.
