Hi all,
Long story short, I'm an Aussie that's lived in Europe for the last 12 years. I come back to Perth quite frequently, and my partner and I will be in town for Christmas and NYE. We're looking to rent a 30-50 foot single-hulled yacht for a few days to sail over to Rotto and back, perhaps with a few friends depending on space. I can't believe how hard it has been to find a company that rents sailing boats without a skipper. In Europe there are countless websites and companies offering this, generally around $1500-2000 per week. I guess there's barely any market in Australia for it? Crazy! Anyway, not sure if this is allowed, so please let me know if it's not, but would anyone be open to us renting their boat? Can show all licenses (Danish sailing/motor license up to 50 foot) and pay deposits, etc. Ideally just for 2 nights, 3 days around mid January. Thanks so much! Jonathan

Hi mate, bareboat charters are available on the east coast (mostly the Whitsundays) where there IS a market, but unfortunately there aren't any such companies in WA. The best you could do is 25ish foot fishing boat.
The other thing with Rotto that time of year, unless you manage to convince someone to use their boat AND they are mooring owners, you'd want to be very quick with renting the hire moorings and they go very quickly in the Jan holidays. I think the hires go online 3 month out.
Good luck. It's a big ask.

So can't you anchor over there? As for renting someone's boat it's a bit like asking to rent their wife.
You can, but at that time of year you'd be hard pressed to find a spot to anchor. Rotto fills up pretty quick from Dec 24th all through January. The bays were there may be room I wouldn't be letting a stranger or friend for that matter take my boat.
