I was under the impression that you had already found next yacht but of course you have to sell your current yacht first.

Therein lies the main problem. If you keep sailing around it makes it hard for somebody to buy it and if you are living onboard prospective buyers might feel they are intruding when coming to inspect the yacht.

Have you worked out a marketing strategy yet??

I have moved most of my gear approx 300kg ashore....she's a dry ship now other than guitars and cooking appliances. It takes time to buy as well as sell.....really the market is very slow. There's 850 boats over 40ft on the hub and only about 10 are under contract.

Out of 850 boats I only like 2 yachts one is under is under contract and the other is going to sell maybe before I sell my current boat.

But still it's a better choice than dealing with real estate I think.

Its really great, large target audience, all of who'm are affiliated with water somehow, cheap rates, easy to use.....(that should do it)

No actually, I'd include Seabreeze as well, and have used it in the past for selling 2 boats.

Sometimes selling wise, there can be merit in being a big fish in a small pond.

Why only look in Australia when S.E. Asia is so close and handy. Especially as the cheap air fare season is just around the corner. Places like Singapore, Jahore Bahru, Langkawi and Phuket are full of boats that are for sale as people learned the hard way that the cruising life wasn't for them.
I was sitting in Royal Langkawi yacht club last year and was talking to a chap from Darwin who was there with his wife, he said that nearly at any given time half the boats in the marina are for sale. The same appeared to be the case in Telaga Harbour, many boats for sale. The only real problem I could see was that if the boat had been there for a considerable amount of time, the climate had not been kind to it due to the high humidity, of course the same applies anywhere in S.E. Asia.

Actually does anyone know about Gst? Do we charge or pay Gst on private boat sales? I have been told its 10% Gst if I import a second hand boat.

Most yachts on the net don't seem to have Gst on the price? I'm a little confused? Is it any item over a certain price perhaps?

But yes Asia would be the place to buy but I can't seem to find any on the net in that region apart from the odd one on yacht hub.

Iv talked to a few people that done this and really they are giving them away over there for the marinas there just go for miles. But of course any boat advertised is someone looking to make money out of you! So you need to be on the ground there with some cash in hand. Never trust a Broaker at all and when they say hello just smile and ask them not to speak another word and just point to the boats please!

Have you considered Auction , Southace ? I'm sitting here at Rivergate Marina , and there seems to be an ' on water ' auction about ea. 2 months. In fact there is an auction this Saturday. There are no monos lined up at present , just a cat. and several power craft. At the last auction there was a very smart Beneteau 40. Seemed to go at $180g. Of interest ,the ship that transports yachts , by sea , arrived this week. Several boats from USA , brought in by owners. I'll be watching the auction if you need any feedback. Cheers, Bob

Bob from what I have read those transport ships can cost up to. 40k then you have all the hidden cost on top. If the total cost was 20k deliverd I would seriously look into that option.

It's typical for gumtree already got another asking to swap 5 acres plus cash for my boat. I doubt this type even know how to tie a bowline yet.....hahaha.

I spent 12 months plus looking for the boat that suited me.
Bought a 2008 Delphia 40. Looked at all the options. Boats certainly appear cheaper in Europe or the USA but getting it here is a whole different story. Transport alone can be 40~70K unless you sail it yourself. (do you have the time??)
Buy in Australia!! Lots of boats and good value.

I have seen a couple of those Delpia 40s please do tell? Where are they produced ? Are they more a racer/cruiser? My opinon was the interior looked very square and futuristic.

Have only owned her a few months moved her from Newcastle to Brisbane over Christmas. Performed well. Will be bringing her around to Perth over the next 12 months.
Strong and sails to windward fast and high. Seems to be a bit more substantial than the beneteau and jeanneau. Each to there own.

I was looking at this one but when I seen cast iron fin I quickly moved on!


Must be a agent in Townsville .....I like the 46 but its a tad over my price range!

Actually many new boats are using cast iron again perhaps Lead is getting to expensive.

I too looked at that boat. Even made an offer. They wouldn't come to the party.
It is a 3 cabin version which cuts down on your space in the saloon area. If you want to accommodate those numbers then that is a good option.
I purchased the 2 cabin which gives loads more storage space.
The price of this boat has dropped substantially. I bet they wish they had accepted my original offer now.
The cast iron keel may require a little more care and maintenance but what other concerns do you have regarding this??

Yes I just checked 3 models out 2 cabin layout much better. I have a feeling that one was a bareboat in the Whitsunday's from my sketchy memory.

Hand laid hull .......sounds like they are well built and sail well.

Cast iron is lighter then lead does it have a bolb keel?

I'm sure they have some good industrial coatings on the keel no doubt. I just prefer lead.
