A mini gale here this afternoon. Glad I'm not out there although it would be a very quick run up or down the coast if you stay right inshore.
Anybody out there?

Nope watched it from Avalon clubhouse. Nice folkboat washed up on Clareville beach and a few headsails unfurled :-(

Here's the wind speed data from the weather station at Stokes Point on Pittwater. No twilight race tonight!

We had a great sail from Scotland Island north up Pittwater to Lion Island doing 6 knots and a great sail back south doing 6 knots with only the #3 and only one tack (a U turn)

Thought about it but didn't feel like getting saturated paddling the canoe out. That's if I could have made headway against the wind and chop anyway as I didn't have the outboard and dinghy. Picking up the mooring ball on the way back would have been fun too. Avalon typically gets more wind in a SWesterly than Taylor's Point or anywhere around Scotland Island as the fetch is far longer. The sail would have been great though. Lucky you :).

We had some good winds at the Big River Sailing Club (north of Grafton) regatta..... so good that one of the best Herons in Australia recorded 16.1 knots on the GPS!

I must recommend Big River's three regattas per year to any sailors who want a great fun weekend for just about any sort of boat; they've even had a First 36 and suchlike enter the long race, while Windsurfers also make an occasional appearance and Herons swoop in to clean up on yardsticks while big cats finish first and, of course, Lasers always provide the best class racing. It's a great club with lovely camping and good fleets, now normally limited to 70 entries to keep everything manageable.

Missed the fun on the weekend but strangely enough got a few quality hours in water skiing on the Nambucca river Saturday morning before the breeze got up. I was anchored in front of the club a couple of weeks ago and was admiring the new club house and the grounds all ways look inviting

Being great for passage making though.

Lakes entrance to Eden (Thurs)
Eden to Ulladulla (Fri)
Ulladulla to Shell Harbour (Sat)
Shell Harbour to Pittwater (Sun)
Pittwater to Nelson Bay (Mon)
Nelson Bay to Port Macquarie (Tues)
To Coffs today.

Four of those days had gale warnings out.
Only one was really fresh (Sun)

Could not help thinking that the BOM have changed how they are assessing warnings over a certain area.
Sure some of the forecast areas are large but a lot of the assessment seems to be for areas well to sea and not coastal.
By rights the boat should not have to put to sea and save for one day did not get water over the bow.

The now numerous webcams on the NSW coast (especially the surfcams) are a great source of reliable information in a westerly stream and more helpful than the very general bom forecast.
