Hi guys
My trailer sailer came with two of these.
Anyone know what they might be for?

Thanks in advance.

Julian

A clothes line?
Maybe the previous owner had trouble with his Hills Hoist and went for a DIY solution.
P would probably mean PORT.
But it could mean Push, Pull, Put, Post, and so on.

I thought it was a J for Julian

My guess is that it is for a lee cloth - ropes to the ceiling and the pole to go inside a sleeve of the lee cloth.

Ha ha yes one is marked p and the other s but that doesn't help much in solving the mystery.

Ha ha. I might investigate that possibility thank you although they were stored in a cockpit locker and I might perhaps have expected a lee cloth accessory to be stored inside. I somewhat doubt however that anyone would have bothered with a lee cloth on a trailer sailer. The boat didn't come with any type of fridge or solar and the inherited anchor with no chain appears barely adequate to hold a dinghy. Strictly outfitted for racing around the lakes near Paynesville rather than overnight passages although one plaque does indicate that it has been to Hamilton Island race week previously.

Looks like one end goes in a socket type fitting. The end with the pin. If you can find one on each side put them in and see where the line ends up.
Maybe once they are both in and the lines are clipped in place you can hang a shade cloth over them for an awning?

Thanks, I'll have to go over the boat carefully. At the moment it's 2200 km away but I haven't seen anything like that and I like to thing I've pretty much surveyed every square inch especially having lived on her for three weeks last month.

Can't be too important if none here knows. Agree though that it's probably living related rather than sailing. Thought perhaps I was missing something exclusively trailer sailer related as I have never owned one before but appears not.

A few a few more pictures in case it's sparks something from somebody's experience. The sliding PVC pipe ferrule is interesting.

Some previous owners brilliant solution to some problem.

That's an interesting piece of apparatus??
The things you find on a boat that has had a few owners..
My boat is 37 years and I found lengths of orange electrical conduit, with a few written markings.
It appears to be some sort of boom tent frame, as I found a camping tent fly material with it.. Do you think I , and others I have asked, how it fits to my boat?? It's a mystery?? There again, it may have been used on another boat??
Best of Luck, Working Yours Out!!

Oh.So true.
You have me hooked.
I know you are away from the boat at the moment, Jules, but next time aboard look for holes on the boat (probably vertical, but not necessarily) that are the diameter of the white sleeve.

I will Gary but I had the boat at home for 3 weeks or so and did quite a bit of work on it plus stayed on it for a couple of weeks so I am doubting that there is anything like that that I haven't noticed yet.
I didn't take my little 3 horse outboard up last time which was a mistake so now I'm turning my mind to where I can store it on board overnight has the pushpits, (if you can call them that) don't seem to lend themselves to addition of a mounting board. I don't like anything that involves laying it down either as that invariably ends up with petrol smells.

I would probably spend $20 on a full cover for for the 3hp so as not to mark the boat and look to tying to front of mast or port transom .
