No problem. FWIW, everybody should be aware that OpenCPN has an S-63 'ENC' plugin.

Having two (or more) electronic devices onboard (at least 1 being battery/portable), and a (backup) portable solar-USB charger, is probably where we're headed.

Comments?

While I'm comfortable with electronic systems, the biggest fear I have is a fundamental dependency on electricity to view a chart. In quiet moments in a race I'll roleplay a complete loss of power, and dry run through a recovery process.
Currently, paper charts are my backup from a navigation aspect. Pulling out another electronic device with spare batteries as the backup?
That's a reality I haven't come to grips with yet. Spare AAA batteries doesn't help much with integrated lithium battery devices.

All very interesting. Is there any way to get the Aus ENC working on a Raymarine chartplotter without ponying up $1,900 for an Expedition license?

Also can anyone get a copy of the brochure that he mentions (and post a pic here), that lists chart software that uses the official AUSENC data?

I can confirm Adrena is not one of them!
I tried yesterday.

Hi 2bish,
It's a PC running Adrena on Cmaps. Adrena is very similar to Expedition but each have slightly different strengths, I was expecting It could handle ENC but no.

I believe there's a plugin for OpenCPN that allows you to load ENC's. If you go down that rabbit hole, it would be interesting to hear about it. Indeed a step by step post would be awesome. I've looked at OpenCPN, got scared, and ran away :) The CYCT down here ran an info night on it a while back. I would have gone but I was out of town for work.

Thanks for posting this video, quite interesting and rightly so, the direction the AHO is taking on paper charts going into the future. It'll be interesting in a year or two by the sounds of it when these "coastal" packs of ENC charts are available and what there cost is,
cheers

+1 good post. Point of interest was the mention of Apple compatible system (and no doubt android ) and the ability to be able to print the latest charts.
If they don't price the recreational boats out of the market it will be a good thing
