Lying on my back in the V berth sanding/peeling/scraping the bottom of the foredeck after pulling the carpet off in prep for installing the laminated beam I have made.

Thought it would be ok because it's a relatively small area but definitely not fun. Anyone aware of something that dissolves the carpet glue readily?

Toluene dissolves it, but not recommended in enclosed spaces, breathing or skin contact. You could also try turps, it removes tape residue, nicer to work with.

Thanks will try that tomorrow although thankfully the job is about 80% done. Hopefully only one more session with respirator, crap cloths, drop sheet and shower after. Looks like I was delirious when I wrote the title to this post even without toluene - ha ha.

I have just done the same with removing contact adhesive attached to a fiber glass hull from foam backed vinyl. I found a wire brush worked well, along with the red coloured paint stripping wheel in a small cordless drill/impact drive.

The red wire wheel was a jasco abrasive nylon wheel brush. from the green shed
