I have 8 windsurfing sails and no sewing machine. My sailmaker is away on holidays and I want to try out the pig. Most of the comments regarding use of uncut windsurfing sails is that it like having only one gear. I hooked up my windsurfing sail to the new mini and rigged a downhaul system that allows the sail to be downhauled to the right amount, without sheeting in. When I sheet in, the amount of downhaul is increased. This flattens the sail when sheeting in.

I think this will allow me to maximize the design of the sail.

Photos when it stops raining.

here is how it is rigged.

The cleat is on the mast. The blocks are attached to the boom and the yacht frame. When rigging, the block for the main sheet locks one end of the line. The other end is pulled until the downhaul is enough to move the battens to the middle of the mast then locked by the cleat. When sheeting in the 4:1 mechanical advantage downhauls the sail.

Your comments please.

It's not far off the 'crockett downhaul' that Land Yacht was using in France. www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Land-Yacht-Sailing/Construction/The-Crockett-Downhaul/

It is close, the main difference is that I can add lots of downhaul before sheeting in. This will allow approprate downhaul to shape my uncut sail. It has stopped raining so i should be able to post photos after work today.

This is how I rigged my downhaul.

This allows me to downhaul the sail to optimize the shape.

When sheeted in, the amount of downhaul increases

These photos show the amount of flattening of the sail when fully sheeted in.

I need to figure out how to configure the end of the boom. Should I bend it upward so my outhaul comes straight out?

Suuuweeet! Looks good Brian though a peice of PVC tube around the mast base as a rubbing strip could serve as a wearing strip to protect it. Sail looks like it could "Cut the Mustard" nice.

You could experiment with bending the boom to match the foot of the sail. Cold bend it so it retains its strength. Sew in a couple of loops along the foot to hold it in place.
Sail shape looking good. Just needs some wind in it.!
