test run report: had a good test run at raglan beach. winds very light. about 6-7 knots. but pulled out top speed of 49.7km/hr. will get some pics and keep yoy all posted on progress. was good to pack up yacht and put into boot. good driving home with no trailer.

Just a thought on sailmakers.. find an up and comming one rather than a big company as often the big guys are very set in there ways in sail design.
The best way is to actually get "the" sail maker to go for a sail on a landyacht so he gets a better idea of the speeds that occur and what is needed.

Thanks AD. I think sulky wheels have been discussed before and a comment was made that the bearings are probably too small for our application with big sideloads.

I like those wheels because they take a standard motor cycle tyre and by the looks of the metal hub they could be modified to take a larger diameter axle and bearing combination.

I am not in the market for wheels just yet but will give you a PM when I am.

I use the hubs and bearings out of the sulky wheels that split (hot weather on lefroy) and installed them into my 26" wheels I have never had a problem whith the bearings but removed the spacer and used 5/8" class12 bolts for axles

Yes, the sulky wheels are fine for class 5. The white ones may be a better choice in the hot Aus sun. I would still have spacers between the bearings and 5/8" high tensile bolts for stub axle. When cranked up tight the spacer effectively increases the diameter of the axle. Also use Michelin Rapido 2 1/4" x 18 tyres if you can get them. The motorcycle tyres are way too heavy and have very stiff side walls being 3 ply construction. The rapidos are 2 ply construction.
