shes been mproving her sailing by taking out my old class 5 which has had the steering adjustment improved to a full 600mm of movement

Ive patched upa sail from 1991! it only needed a rebuild of the head,the foot,the leach and the 37 small holes. bizzarely with the 26" wheels ,a 16"front and new sheeting, it feels like a really nice machine to sail

meanwhile Ive dug through the graveyard and managed to squeeze my fat old belly into this classic body from 2004

managed to turn the pink box into a kind of mini over the weekend, with 25mm wooden axleand hand steering as my feet had no room to steer.
trying to get a sail together this week , but customers keep ringing the mobile

it was too tight trying to get a steering linkage into the box, that front end is simply set up with the steering head set down to the point of contact. theoretically I can the get away with a small tiller. with 20mm shaft for the bearings theres no need for a 2 sided fork

There you go Paul... the red lines have dissected the sail to give the centre, the yellow line is about 1/4-1/3 from the leading edge which is the aerodynamic lift line.
The white circle is where the effective CE would be... this is just behind the back wheel contact point. On salt (because of the surface) it should be fine, but a mast step that has no rake making the mast more upright would move the CE a little further forward giving a better balanced yacht.

the whole set up with sheeting separate from down haul , and hand steering takes some getting used to , but the tiller needs to be longer, so that a chop up job tommorrow, managed 1 capsize trying to sort it all out, which in this body of a yacht meant about 3 minutes to climb out. the big sail (5m) seemed really happy even when the wind was up, but i will put something inside the body to push mu feet against ,to get the body weight back.
meanwhile , Ive finally got the balance right on the raggeddy old class 5. with this set up i was able to sail , and tack on the claypan using the front wheel as an aelieron(?), a rather bizzare feeling with the front wheel only occasionally touching down

The old yacht looks good. Don't know about that setup for Wallungup I think you will take more trips into the bush than I did (had 4kg on the front wheel and had no way to get around the airstrip end of the lake when the wind was up)

I keep thinking that too , but it just seemed to do the job on the clay at the ened of the day a quick tweek of the boom would tack the yachtwith barely a touch of the steering.
perhaps its all to do with the tyre pressures?

my apologies for not letting you guys know when it was on.
we were supposed to be episode 3, but got bumped to the first.
ABC2 sunday night is the repeat , or on Iview( Do Or Die, the goldfish bar)
We didnt know that they worked together, but tattoo boy was a bit of a to**er
ben the barman was a really friendly , helpful bloke, Id give him a job,
when they headed out onto the lake , he had a leaky tyre, and got left behind till we fixed it.
got to hand it to them all the walked all the distances they claimed on the show, and by following the tracks out It was probably 4X the distance.
what I ddid find interesting was that the route on the last day was one that Id run through with the producers,who then relayed to the "expert",
when he relayed it to the group the law of chinese whispers meant a significantly l harder walk, and they walked within 150m of a cool dam chockers with yabbies,without even noticing

your crackers.... and can you move the yacht closer to the back wall next time you post a photo please

Yeh Col, there will be a full heat shield from the top bar (over my head) to the bottom of the chassis forward of the bottle as well.
This will protect from the both extremes, the intense heat and the icing on the cylinder.[}:)]

It's just a curiosity project and won't be running for long anyway.

I was going to make a couple of points on this subject regarding Terminal Velocity. My thoughts were very Myopic and short sighted/Overly symplistic.
It all becomes very complicated so suffice to say..
