Hi everyone
My name is Kody and I live at Yeppoon in Central Qld. I am very interested in building my own land sailer. I am a machinist and welder and I love designing using my CAD program. We went to the beach today and saw some wonderful sand yachts racing down the beach. I am looking for a set of plans or a basic guide to the design of a sand yacht. I have lots of questions but I will come back to these later. When I eventualy get to build my sand yacht, I will keep you all informed with its progress and how I made it.

Welcome Kody!

Class V plans are available from David Rose for a small fee for photocopying and postage. That is where I got the plans for the Pacific Magic I built, with Davids assistance. (or David built with my assistance - blurry line here

)They used to be $10.00 but you can check with him at budrose@picknowl.com.au or speak to Paul Day (landyacht on here) as he was the original designer of the Pacific Magic.

Paul is also designing a Lake Lefroy mini class 6 and posting the details under the construction section, but the thread is not quite up to the stage of giving design details just yet.

Lachlan is also detailing his new design in the constuction section too.

I can't wait to see your progress, with your qualifications it should be a beauty!!

Welcome from me as well. Hope your having luck getting info together.

The most important thing I can think of is to get as much information as possible. Its a little time consuming but its better than getting something together and then figuring out how to make it better a little while later

With your metal working skills I cant wait to see what you come up with! Some CAD drawings would be awesome too if you had the time.

Hi Kody, Welcome to our home. I live in Bundaberg but Farnborough and Mulumbin Beaches on the Capricorn Coast are my favourite sailing spots.

There is a (from the sounds of it BIG) meeting of blokarts and kite buggies happening at Conway Beach, Whitsundays over the Easter Weekend. Rock on up if you feel inclined. Accomodation is tight but our friends there have promised help to squeeze us in somewhere.

I (also a fitter and machinist) will be calling in to Yeppoon for a couple of days on my return trip. I'll be happy to hook up with you and give you a ride in my blokart.

Hi guys
Thanks for all the replies, yes I do have a lot of research to do before I cut the first steel bar. I am very interested in also building a land sailer that will carry two people. To build two single seat L/sailers would be great as my sweetie could also take part in the racing, fun and bashing up the 12 miles of beach here. I cant leave out our much loved German Shepherd as she goes bananas if I leave her at home alone. She would love to ride up front in a L/sailer and already loves to come out fishing around the Keppel Islands. I notice there is a potential problem with bearings and wheels. This is one of the main things that I will spend time on to develop a truely great, almost maintenance free set of wheels. Will post photos and info as it all comes together.

Thanks Hillsy, to build the big 3 seater you will need 3m NQ diamond drill rod 1 off. 6m NQ core tube, 2 10"mini wheels and hubs and a 9 square meter sail board sail. Just for starters! Building time for chassis was 2 days.

I built a bolt on box called WOOF1 which was a deep wooden narrow carpet lined box for my border collie. we even raced with it. it fitted on a cl 5 easily. was also used by the kids when they were young. Hunt for photo has begun
