Traction is good on the grass and controlled turns are the norm. However if you want to wind it up from one end of the field on a windy day and then do a sharp turn milliseconds before you crash into the fence for the benefit of the spectators you are risking coming to grief in a serious fashion as happened to me one day.
Was a really nice windy day and had attracted a few enthusiastic spectators. Did a turn at the bottom of the field and saw a lady get out of her car with camera at the ready at the opposite end of the paddock. Who can resist that sort of temptation to show off.
Wound it up, must have got to 60 k, lifted the wheel a couple of times, reached the other end, threw the turn at the last second or half, perfect 180, but still travelling in the same direction (backwards around 30 k) with a solid log fence and some trees about 3m away (see photo).
Mind goes into hyperdrive, "You DICKHEAD. You are doing this with NO HELMET ON! Only thing YOU can do is duck your dick head and hope for the best."
Obey command, kart passes through gap in fence with 100mm clearance either side, head takes glancing blow from horizontal log, many stars, some blood, lady with camera jumps in car and pisses off quick, other spectators rush over and say "Are you alright mate?"
Cisco says "Ahh, Si Senor, Eees all in a days woork."
Moral to the story:- "Don't get too cocky and wear a bash hat!!"
Thanks for the question hillsy, we gotta keep this thing ALIVE!!
