Hi there,
I'm trying to collect some information about Gobi Desert. I thought I would get some results here with search but I've found naught. A big team from NZ was there in Mongolia with blokarts in 2007, but the website of this journey is now off line.

I wish to know how much did it cost per person, the average mileage per day and the best period to go. We're planning to go there with landyachts and kite buggies. From some reports I got the feeling winds in May can be good for landyachts but too strong for kite buggies, winds in September can be good for kite but too weak for landyachts...

Thank you for your help

Cheers - Enrico

Hi Enrico

I've PM'd you the email address for one of the NZ blokarters that sailed the Gobi Dessert.

Cheers

@ aus 230: the website about that trip was http://www.gobiblokartraid.com/
@ philC: thank you so much for the address

There's quite a lot about sailing in Gobi desert. One of the most interesting adventure is www.bbc.co.uk/norfolk/features/gobi_desert/gobi_desert_diary_02.shtml

My major doubt is if buggies and landyachts can sail together. Wind conditions on May seems to be very funny for blokarts...

i would suspect that if it could be done in a Blokart , a buggy would have no difficulty.
down on the beaches at Esperance , a blowie can sail half of cape le grande beach , in one direction, and a buggy can do the whole beach in both directions

Yes, I agree. The matter is: May (better for landyachts) is too close, no time for all of us to get ready; September will fit better the buggies' needs (wind is not soo strong as in May) and we have more time to set the raid up, BUT will a landyacht find the wind to go and keep the pace of the buggies?

Cheers - Enrico

Pack the sail and mast of the Blokatrs and power them with the buggy kites.
