Yeh, there is an up coming event "Festival of the Wind" in Esperance in mid March and the Pink Lake fire brigade are helping out. I am hoping to build some sort of land yacht and have a crack and let others try it out in this fun event.
I have taught my self to kite buggy in the last 12 months, but I'm no sailor
(I get sick crossing a wet lawn). I have never, tried a land yatch.

I have been checking out this forum and it's fantastic, lots of good info.

I think the theme in March is recycled materials as much as possible.
I'm just trying to get a mast and sail before I commit to a build.

Hi, that looks like the beach to the base of Cape le Grande in the photo.

I had scans on my shoulder today, where I got ejected from my buggy 3 weeks ago and the tendon is ripped off. Surgery sometime for me. What a knob!!!!
So 6 weeks holiday in front of me and a dodgy shoulder, so going to need a project now.
I have a well equiped shed. I build fire trailers for FESA and general fabrication.
I built my kite buggy and it has 8"x 8" Sysmic rims with 21" Big Foots. So I love to tinker.

A mate thats leaving town, has a one piece carbon mast that I'm going to pick up tomorrow morning. So just the sails to sorce.

I will study the basic Lefroy mini in the meantime.

Give me a yell if your heading south again. There is always a beer in the fridge.

ride on mower wheels tend to be heavy, when compared to a 4"x8" wheelbarrow or even a 6x8. whatever you build keeping the weight down is critical, if you get too heavy you will end up with a 3 wheeled beach chair
given what you build , i think we can assume youd be building 2 minis at a timebefore lunch

photos of masts and sails that are excess to my needs-
some of the sails are ready to use with a standard windsurfing boom (no.2, 5 and 7), and some others have damaged lower sections and would be good for recutting to suit a regular lake lefroy mini landyacht type boom.

in the photo of the masts, the closest 2 1/2 masts are for trade.
the shorter lower section needs a reinforcing wrap of fiberglass at the joining section but otherwise is good.
the yellow 2 piece mast has been given a coat of resin as when I got it there were some loose fibers on the surface. I havent used it yet.

My daughter graduates 22nd Jan, so I will be driving to Perth for this.

Whenever it's cool I've been plugging away (and a litter of Lefroys are developing).

They are dangerous to build as mates turn up with nectar and construction turn to destruction. Were having a fat time though.

I pestered the local bearing supplier and he's a fallshaw agent so when everything gets back to normal in the new year he's going to get me some prices.
I see what you mean about the "Bundlings" variety. Nasty bearings eh???

I have been called a magpie by many people over the years, and mum tells me it runs in the family

I just make a point of visiting balcatta at some point during my rdo's from the mine, and there is usually something to smuggle back home

I have been trying to find a kids electric scooter at balcatta, and using the motor as the basis for a small electric winch as my hands are giving me some grief with stuff like hanging on to ropes, but the only one I found looked like the smoke got out of the wires, and it might have been a bit hard to put it back in!

with the amount of gear that turns up at balcatta it shouldnt be long before I find a goodun!

Hi sn, Good to catch up.
I thought I had a motor under the bench. If it's there it's hiding!!!!
The motors are from memory about 50mm across and 80mm long plus the transmission. This would make it roughly 150mm long in total. The ones out of older cars work on a curved rack and pinion so the arm has a lot of power. A wrecking yard may be worth a try to see the different sorts.
A 6 pack of nectar, got me 4 different ones when I was building a grain cleaner some years ago. They were used to regulate shutes and outlets from the ground.

Getting off the track here but I'm like that. I don't mind a yarn.
