Hi everyone, Owen here and after spending the last couple of years trying Blokarts, aero shutes, hang gliding, parachuting, etc etc etc, I now seem to have come full circle and am back to blokarts ... I have a holiday house down at Sandy point Vic and besides fishing, there really aint that much to do down there when the wind gets up. so I, (wife doesnt know yet.) have decided to purchase acouple of blokarts later on this year.. my concept is to purchase something that is user friendly, avoid dying from a mistake, and can be enjoyed by family and friends from the get go..... Can someone tell me if the beach from Sandy point up thru Warratah Bay is blokart freindly or am I to expect the odd sniper shot at me.? The reason I ask is that i heard in the past the some beaches in Vic are NO GO zones for blokarts.? can someone enlighten me if this is fact or fiction and also whether there are clubs of sort down that way I could mosy on into........

I have plenty to follow up on now....

Way out west, Esperance,W.A. theres a great beach running east/west,22 kms long. Sailed it last weekend with a SE gale warning. Wife drove around to the far end on the road,beach conditions similar to 90 mile beach in NZ.
You start at Cape Le Grand National Park and head east towards Bandy creek boat harbour.A nice change from endless flat monotonous boring salt lakes!

Another good beach is Dunns rock's east of esperence.(if there is no seaweed)
Try and get to safety bay you will not get bored there (scared the hell out of me the first time I sailed there love it now)

Bryan, you are nearly 100 years out on your date for Landyachts recorded on 90 Mile Beach, and in the 70's I was hiring rides to the bus passengers on the same beach!

You could buy the Book "Landyachts of the North", the history of Landyachting in northern NZ (actually printed in 1986)
The Reverend William Puckey who ministered to the Northern tribes way back then had a light "wagon" constructed for travelling up the beach. He used horses to take this to the beach from Kaitaia and went on the beach at Ahipara, where he unhitched the horses and then had them on long reins behind. He rigged his sail, drawings show this as rather like a "dipping lug" and travelled up the beach. Records show him as having made the trip as far as Te Paki stream in a day.
Apparently one of his major issues was that the horses got tired trying to keep up with him!
Source of information was his personal diaries which included a couple of sketches.
