Hi all Blokarters,
Oliver's Lake is the smoothest it has been after 4 mm of rain on Tuesday. Dry enough for a few fast test runs today, definitely no dust but a small puddle in the middle which should dry off in a couple of days. Plenty of sailing room for everyone. Look forward to some good racing.
Cheers

Why !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Salt rising to the surface on some land is cause by the under ground water tables changing, either by poor farming practices or removal of native trees in the area, this may have occured over many generations often making quite fertile farming land useless.
This in turn adds $$$ to your food bill..
Western Victoria is often regarded as prime grazing / farming land.

The lack of water over this way has reduced many of the salinity problems during the last decade. Im sure if normal rain patterns return it'll be become a large part of the agenda again. Hopefully by the time that happens more trees will have been planted, although this is another activity thats been put on the back burner since the salt issue disappeared. Nothing like preparing for the future to scare funding away

on a more positive note, the surface looks great. Hope the weather holds up its end of the bargain for everyone.

realistically, the salt is concentrating just below the surface( or on it in the case of salt lakes ) and a return of rain causes a big flush either via surface runoff or "underground runoff" thus polluting groundwater souces, rivers , lakes, wetlands. one thing for sure . it hasnt gone away , or reduced!!
sorry to hijack you thread guy, enjoy the sailing

To all you anxious Blokarters that want to know about our beaut weekend at Horsham`s Lake Oliver event?? Socially it was an excellent 4 day outing. Sailing wise it was a fizzer except for the Saturday during which 4 races were finished in gusty and trying conditions. We all had heaps of fun zooming around the triangle course 3 times and attempting to read the wind to our advantage. Ben Lazaar was supreme at this task followed by John Buzo, generally hot on his heels. In all 16 combatants entered each race with a rolling anti-clockwise start which worked extremely well for novices especially as it avoided sudden course changes and possible confrontations. The rest of the time was spent in each other`s company waiting for the wind to return ,did not happen, or swimming and exploring Horsham`s hot spots. In all it was a bit sad not to have wind but I think every one enjoyed the weekend any way.Better luck next time we all hope!
Yours Jon Guymer

Sounds like a good weekend, just a pity about the wind. Well done to the organisers and participants for making the trip.

Gives me a good feeling to know there is more to landsailing than just sailing.

lack of wind inland in summer is always on the cards. top effort folks , keep on trying.
just thinking about the statistics, in 30 years of events , ive managed a 50% success rate for wind !!!.
even safety bay was dodgy wind in the third afternoon
