Thought I'd post up some pics of the seat I started (with help from my Father, thanks Dad!) as I'd never fibre glassed before. So we layed it up in two halves in my wheelbarrow (which I'd prepared with a good poly filler and release wax), then joined the two halves together.

I've fibreglassed in some aluminium flat bars so that I could rivet the seat onto some side support bars. Then I've added a product I found at officeworks, a polystyrene covered with a hard poly surface, cut to shape and sealed with tape to prevent the styrene disappearing.

Found that cutting slots in

the aluminium support plate at the mouth of the seat, meant a better bond with the fibreglass mat.

Yes. Keep him away from that white furry stuff.

Are Wheelbarrows a good seat? It seems obvious, but i've never though of it. The only problem i can think of is it might be a bit wide. I'm outside now lookin at my barrow and thinking!

Yeah, my little chubby fella liked the look of the white fluffy stuff, and required a little encouragment and distraction. He also liked my nice colourful rope and "helped" to sheet it through the blocks.

Look to be honest guys, I think you'd find the angle of the back a bit steep for most "speed pods". So you'd probably want to add something after the initial layup to break that angle into two.

But for my purposes of building a quick and dirty seat, for a more upright seating position it was a really good option. The layup was a little tricky as we did one side first with two layers, making sure not to resin all the way up to the edge we'd be joinging on, wait for it to go off, then prise it off and move it over to reduce the width of the seat. Then lay up the other side and overlap.

If I was to do it again I'd lay up both sides seperately with say two layers and then join. As the way we did it there were some angle issues and called for some quick clamping and wedging to keep things in the right spot. Or as you say sn get a narrower wheel barrow!
