Do stiffy masts have more performance than flexys on a landyacht?
Anyone done a direct comparison?
I guess you'd have to have two sails so that the sail matched the mast. Difficult to compare them directly I guess.
Excellent craftsmanship there Hiko, I want one!
hello every body, im still around . been off line cos the daughters came home for holidays and and blew the months internet allowance in 8 hours
we got in 4 great sailing sessions over the holidays , and some of the observations are pertinent.
The sail I had been racing with on my stiff ally mast was sold off with a yacht and went onto a glass Kilwell mast on a bog standard LLM. now I cant seem to catch that yacht. sitting behind watching it , it just seems to sit better than on the ally mast. perhaps softerv sail, glass mast

TP1 has a "New" ssail that was cut down from a class 5 sail and hes got it a 460 30% carbom mast. again it sits better than the ally mast.when we compared masts I reckon a 30%carbon 55mm OD mast is equivalent to my stiff ally mast.
. on the last 2 sails I couldnt catch my daughter unless the wind got silly, and though she is getting real good, at one stage she beat the fleet with a half flat tyre

(sound familiar)
next day I pulled my Yframe to bits to see it was all aligned, and found that the axles had twisted and bent over the 7 months Ive had the chassis.
I do sail it hard ,so I shouldnt be suprised

Im thinking that the next mini will be back to a T frame, perhaps withsome kind of sprung axle.i picked up some nicetassie oak shelving recently.
my favourite masts have been glass masts with another glass mast inserted for stiffening., but Im still holding out for something with carbon.
