The mojave-5 needs a headrest. It's a laydown seat, and the back portion of it is angled up so that my upper back and shoulders are against it. My helmeted head is 8-10 inches above the highest part of the seat back when I am laying down, and is about 3-6 inches above the plane of the seat back.

I want to make something that I can rest my head on. There are several versions of them here in the construction threads, and I am wondering which type you guys like for comfort, and simplicity.....

Here's the beastie with a smallish sail on it, and a picture of the seat itself, before it was finished. Suggestions and/or pics would be a great help!!

Edit; also, if anyone has made an adjustable headrest, I would love to see it

Gees! John That sail should give you a real turn of speed when you get into High Wings. Looks great.
Head Rest.. OK! You could try a piece of 3/16" Ply insert. Run it from the Base to your head position, maybe 3" above where your head makes contact then glue in a wedge of firm foam to raise your Mellon/Snafter/Pumpkin to a comfortable angle. Simple and sweet, you could also taper it where it leaves the Back rest to reduce wind drag as 6" to 8" should be ample width at the head. Try it out before fixing it permanently.

I would sew up a cushion that extends under you back with a loopthat slips over the back ot the seat. this is the very reason I started making those canvas and trampoline material sling back seats. I had the same problem

I went for the 'james bond' headrest; make it 3 times as complicated as necessary, but still sort of cool. I still have to trim off some too long bolts, too.

The red stuff is some kind of naugahide, and I filled it with microbeads. I haven't sailed it yet, but it doesn't tip my helmet like other pads have, and it's very comfortable

I'll keep you posted

Just one question. What does a nauga that you get the naugahide from look like apart from very bloody from losing it's hide????

With the amount of naugahide that goes into making seats for Hogley Davidsons, I wonder if they are an endangered species.

I saw a pic. of one of those nauga's a while back.

very friendly-ugly (but many say cute) great beastie that sheds its skin a couple of times a year, not messy at all
