Regarding tips :
*You will need to protect yourself from fine dust !!!!
Also some reported that big clamps of dry mud were flying in the corners - so you want to protect your face !
*Regarding bearings - I would not worry too much about tricking your bearings and stay with stock - fully greased and fully sealed because of the fine dust and ( normally) the high speeds you race on Ivanpah
*Practice how to change tyres because you'll ware them fast on that surface (I went through 11 tyres in 09 )
* Know how to balance your wheels - some might get away with unbalance wheels now but once you start to get in to Ivanpah speeds you'll know all about it if it is not right
*Practice in strong winds if you get a chance - You will sail in 30+kn in same stage in Ivanpah
*If you can afford it get small sails if you do not own them already (in 09 I used my 2m for at least 40% of the time) .Good chance you will go through all the sizes in an event in Ivanpah
*If you can afford it get maybe a spare wheel/axle so you can do a quick change between races if needed (in 09 we had little time between races)
* the key to understand Ivanpah is to understand the space (95km2) and to think like a yacht - that the shorter line is not always the fastest way to get from A to B
and keeping your speed is much more important the keeping your direction .
Here is a link from 09 event - this video is crapy because of the dust on the lens but that what you might see through your goggles after a lap or two ,you can see the dust ,the speed and get some idea of the space:
