Does anyone have any tips or tricks regarding excess baggage on kite trips?
Heading out in July flying with Virgin - 10 days taking 2 kites, 2 bars/lines, 1 tt, 1 harness, some clothes.
Obviously taking multiple bags will incur excess charges, even though total weight will probably be under 20kgs!
Any advice?

One kite oriented bag to carry the lot. YOu can take sports equipment under your normal baggage allowance. I'm in a similar boat and I'm taking all my kite stuff in one bag and the biggest carryon I can with all my clothes and camera gear.
I've got to get a bag still. Haven't decided on one yet. Has to carry one tt, 3 kites, harness, 2 bars, and a wetty. That weighs about 20kgs. Wheels would be a big plus as well.
Where are you headed? You aren't going to PNG are you?

Kite travel bags with wheels are great for mobility but the wheels etc add extra weight. I have one and if i need to replace it i'll look around for a good well made bag without wheels.
thats my 2cents

You dont have to look to far. I am using a golf travel bag. You will easily get two kites, board and more in. They are paded and on wheels. On sale you can get top of the line for around $100

I bought a Pro-Limit bag, $129.00, 2 sections, 1 for tt, 1 for kites. I took 1 tt, 2 kites, 2bars, 1 Pump, seat harness and a wetty, a couple of towels for a bit of extra padding around my board and I weighed in at 20kg. I had extra bag with a few clothes in that i also checked and wasn't charged any extra. On the way back I brought 3kg of Geraldton water and a new 5'6" kite surfboard. Only checked the kite gear and got charged $70.00 excess baggage. Wheels are a great idea but adds around 3kg to your total weight.
