Too early to get excited (..but I am anyway.) I've also got a stack of new gear that hasn't seen the light of day yet.

I think we could put together a pretty big crew for a downwinder, put some faces to names and work towards regular group outings through Spring, Summer.

The beauty of a down winder from seaford to where ever.... Is that you can catch the train back up to seaford. Or if there is enough cars just park a few down at the other end.
Not sure if this sunday will be ne good... As its looking to be gusty and very windy.
But once these sea breezes hit it will be all good
Bring on summer I say!

I tend to avoid downwinders on frontal and save them for seabreeze days. Too many things that can go wrong with frontal.

comeon!
If this wind picks up and stables out it might just be boosting weather!

I managed to get out at Brighton for a short session, I spent most of my time getting pounded by the bay swell and trying to sort out my new gear.

Accidentally looped my 10 metre, fast mover compared to my former 12.

Nice to be back on the water, hopefully everyone got in a good session.

Good to see plenty of ppl at brighton and the racing season underway.
Had some trouble and had to pack down and paddle to shore. Thanks heaps to the mystery kiter who rescued my board and had it safely on the beach when I got back in. Legend.

Great day down at rose bud! Not nearly as crowded as I would expect.
On another note, does anyone know any good kite repairers? I decided I'd try the new gopro on the kite and it swung around on the strut and burst through the canopy when I crashed it :( I've found a few suggested repair shops doing a forum search but they're a few years old so any updates to get me on the water by Thursday for the windy warm weather would be greatly appreciated!

Ouch, regarding that Go Pro kite injury! I had a nice session at Brighton early in the morning when a front came through hard at around 25 knots. Looks like it was up and down all day. It was a great local session, but the wind was not good for a downwinder.

I tried out the new drysuit, even though it was not very cold. I was toasty warm with very light garments underneath www.peterskiteboarding.com/2012/09/first-kitesurfing-with-ocean-rodeo-soul.html

Acitta,
damn, that's unfortunate!
How did you attach it? Any mistakes we could learn from? I plan to do the same after I get the cam but your outcome is somehow off-putting.
Thanks.

just make sure its on tight i guess. I used the head mount which you can see people doing on youtube. Just take the time to make sure it's secured proerly and wont be able to move around at all once attached. I should have tried it out at home before doing it in prime conditions when I was in a rush to get on the water. With all the kite movement tha camera moved around the strut and was pointing at the canopy, so ive got about 30 photos of my canopy before you can see daylight through it :P

Any sail maker can fix your kite. Moti Levy does good work but you have to post it to him in Ballina www.kiterepair.com.au/

You could easily repair a rip like that yourself. Buy a roll of spinaker repair tape. Clean the fabric.

Cut some tape for patches. Round the ends so there are no sharp corners to peel off.

I would use black tape and maybe cut the patch so it looks like part of the design. Trying to match colours is too hard and usually looks crap.

You could make the inner patch smaller than the outer patch so you don't get the edges lining up and making a hard edge.

Press it down well. You could heat it with a hair dryer to get the glue to set better.

You could sew around the edges with a sewing machine and some polyester thread. It's not really necessary.

Give this bloke a try, i had him do some repair work on my Slingy few months back, If bladder needs to be taken out, or stitching removed around leading edge, i would take it out at home before taking it in, and make sure kite is clean and dry.... he doesnt like sand on his floor boards
24 hour turn around too.
Sorry to hear about your Go Pro mishap!
Missus is getting me one for my birthday... cant wait!

Acitta, I use the same set up on a North Rebel centre Strut and have found if I make it as small as I can and then wrapped it around the strut twice when the kite is 3/4 inflated, then complete pumping the kite up it stays in position

thanks for the tips guys. I took it down to Horizon sails today. I could probably do the repair on my own but decided for the extra effort I'll get a professional to make sure it holds. And thanks for the tip deanrobbie, i think Im also going to add a buckle clip to it to make it easier to get on and off too
