You could try Rye to your neck of the woods st kilda??
on a southerly. not sure how long that one would take
Is there such a thing as kite touring? like they do on jetskis and sail boats?
eg go from one place to another have lunch and a drink and head back??
cheers cam and
Cam, Rye to St Kilda (or Brighton) is possible, but getting launched in a southerly from Rye would be difficult due to the wind shadow.
Going the other way, launching at Brighton in a northerly would be pretty easy.
The distance is around 57km.
Here is a map for a possible route:

Some factors to consider re safety:
* Use a board with flotation (race board or surfboard)
* Carry an EPIRB (or Spot) + waterproof mobile
* Buoyancy vest & wetsuit - in case the wind drops
* Staying close to shore where possible
* Want a good wind forecast for the duration - around 2.5 hours I think
* Let someone know before you go!
Some sort of boat backup would be nice too. Planning in progress . . .
