Hi guys,

I'm keen to head down to Inverloch or Sandy Point for a kite in the next couple of weeks.
My question is, what sites do people use for reliable wind info and forecasts for the area?

Cheers

Pound creek will give you the wind at inverloch, usually add on 5kts or so- because the wind meter is a bit protected. As for sandy point, yanakie is the closest wind meter I know of that has live readings. Probably not best to suggest sites here (cause they're in competition with Seabreeze), but a simple google search should reveal some.

The only site you need is the BOM. They have a tool called meteye which is updated every 3 hours by senior forecasters.

As Sandy Point is so low it cops almost every front coming through so zoom out to the whole VIC view and make sure a fronts on its way and will pass over sandy point.

Then you want to check the mixing height to see how clean the wind will be and to give you an idea of the type of weather you can expect. LOW mixing level is usually brings gusty winds.

Then check the rain forcast. No rain is a good sign of smooth wind as long as the front is pushing through. No rain is usually associated with a high pressure and high mixing height.

Also note that you can get wind at both Inverloch and Sandy Point that is not forecast, as happened last Saturday at both locations.
