Good level of self indulgent narcissism here with repeated head and body shots of one's self...too bad Contour don't make a water proof GPS model - this would be truly awesome.

Yes, well the camera angle is fixed once its on the line mount. The Roam mounts in a waterproof housing (even though it is rated waterproof). You can get a similar housing for the Contour GPS and use the same Kitehero linemounts.

Judging by the poo stance and the expression on your face I'd say you were trying to back one out ;-)
It's fun picking on others 👻

Thanks flight9774.

Cam, the closest to "poo stance" would be photo #2. Some folk on Seabreeze seem obsessed with the topic.

Here's a shot I took today at Frankston - straight legs!!!

Oh ok
Its funny they hang **** on the poo stance.
IMO theres nothing wrong with bending your knees??
if your knees arnt bent how are you meant to get over the waves smoothly and in control?

may be copletley different but water sking you have to bend you knees abit to work like shock absorbers.

interested to hear some theories.
cheers cam

The problem with the poo stance is that your upper body is hunched over, your arms are bent, your bum is hanging way out the back, your harness is riding up and your edging is coming from your ankles and knees. It is uncomfortable and inefficient.

Poo stance is what you do when you have mastered riding along but have not actually mastered kiteboarding yet. You can tell by the strange posture and the elbows flapping along as they ride.

The correct stance is:
- front leg mostly straight
- rear leg bent as much as it needs to be
- back straight
- arms straight
- shoulders back
- hips forward

This means your body is relaxed. Your steering is coming from your shoulders and upper body. The harness is pulled down onto your hips. Your entire body weight is transferred to the front lines and into the edge maximising power (essentially making you part of the system instead of being a passenger). The front foot is engaging the rail which is necessary at all points of control. Your back leg is free to carve upwind on any waves you encounter.

You modulate your power and edge by raising and lowering your body to suit the conditions. You don't have to overly work the bar. Your front leg is free to bend to suck up bumps and chop.

AHH I see.
That makes good sence.
Ive been thinking hard as to what ive been doing and I think offialy i can say im not a poo stance man lol

I think I came about the none poo stance way when riding over powered and I couldnt hold an edge unless I rode as you have described.
And it felt a lot more comfortable.
Going the other direction I ride toe side.

I guess thats the downside to being self taught.

But after reading alot on this forum Ive got a lot of things to try out.
switching,etc.

Have been getting out along our street with my daughter riding my skateboard I dusted off whilst shes on the scooter.
and practicing riding goofy and sliding the board around.
I think its a great help just mucking around on the skater.

Thanks alot for the detailed reply mate really apreciate it.
cheers cam

Further to Gorgo's good tips,

- bending knees (a little) allows you to absorbs shocks and bumps when going fast in chop or waves, with the rear knee typically bent more than the front knee
- bend your knees to get out over broken waves in surf "absorb the wave" - particularly important if riding strapless

Where the "poo stance" is most noticeable is beginners trying to get riding on the board for the first time. They can get scared of getting pulled over their toes so they squat back like they are on a throne. This is often combined with looking at the kite and flying it to far forward to the edge of the wind window. The end result is sinking backing into the water bottom first.

Not an issue for you Cam, but for others to avoid this:

- Do a bigger power stroke with the kite, dive it from high
- When the power kicks in lift yourself from the water (bar in), pointing the board downwind
- As you get up and going fast downwind - straighten your legs
- Edge the board, keep your front leg straight, and bend your back knee, using it to edge and steer the board
- Look where you want to go
- Fly the kite back up from the power dive, but not too high.
- Back the power off by pushing the bar it if you are out of control and/or going to fast.
- voila, you're going . . .

Ok thanks mate the more info the better.
Im so looking forward to a differnt kite lol
I think its going to make life a whole lot easier.
Alot of the time im under powered and have to work the arse off out of the kite.
A hand full of times the wind has been spot on and its a pleasure just to leave the kite in one spot and just ride.

I think when i bought it all those yearsa ago the bloke in the shop said being a foil kite it is like riding a size or two smaller than an inflatable kite.
that sound right??
so if its true its like riding a 6m haha self taught in howling wind on a nugget.

Really really really hanging for a second handy and getting out.
should work out ok by the time ive got some money all the tourist should have gone from my local.

The mrs said she saw a kitere out at sorrento on Tuesday this week.
she was at the beach in the moring before it got hot and before the beach got flooded with people. I think the kiter had the same idea.
she rekons he was going pretty hard.
followed the car ferry and hitting the wake doing a few jumps etc.
she loved watching him/her.

better reason for me to get another one hahaha.

I want to get her a lesson of two and see if she likes it
