Had my first serious session today in some seriously testing conditions.

I think i saw every kite size out for a while, there were guys out on 12m while others on 8m.

i think the best thing about trying conditions like today is it keeps the crowds away. At hampton there was at max 5 people out at once.

I did the worst thing after my session though, i went straight to the kiteshop and had a look at some new kites , i was strong though and didnt lash out but i dont think ill be that strong next week.

Did anyone else head out today? there was some crew out at kitebeach on my way home getting some nice lofty boosts

What do you mean by...trying conditions.....I recon everybody even vaguely intrested in kiting must have been on the water today.....perfect conditions for 9m sails

i'm looking forward to demoing some new kites.

We were out at Hampton yesterday. The wind was strong but gusty and there was some bay swell too. . We flew 10m kites fully depowered and were still able to get good boost.

A couple of guys on the beach were setting up 12s and ended up overpowered, but thankfully not on Beach Road. We advised them not too - it was a good day for a smaller kite, maybe even a 7 or 8 - but they didn't listen.

In the end we were happy there was no carnage. But hey, if someone advises you not to go out, there would usually be a good reason for that.

Here is a post with kitecam shots: www.peterskiteboarding.com/2010/11/gusty-wind-at-hampton-with-kitecam.html

Thinking of heading to altona tomorrow (Tuesday) for a look in the easterly. Coming from aspendale, is it worth the trip?

Correct me if i'm wrong, but that looks lumpy to me. The kite cam pics can be pretty deceiving. Then again i kite in lakes so flat is a different standard.

This is the roughest i've ever seen here yesterday. And **** it was gusty!. about 20cm chop.

Can vouch for that - it was actually pretty rough at Hampton yesterday - I was out with Peter. The kite cam shot is deceptive.

Yeah it was. i still have to try the Custom and a Styx before i can make my decision.

I loved the new sync straps and pads though. Instant comfyness.

The shot is deceptive, as Stuart said, it was definitely not flat - check out the bay swell breaking on the sea wall. It got to about 1m and was actually pretty rough. Good fun, but tricky. Thanks re the blog.
