Some interesting figures:

- 3 - the number of fins broken on submerged rocks

- 264 - the number of kilometres of shore line

- 1 - the number of sunbathing topless women spotted

- 2,700 - the length in metres of the Pt Wilson jetty

- 53 - the number of sea urchin spines embedded in my feet

- 160 - the number of days to remove all of the sea urchin spines from my feet

- 240 - the number of dollars spent in surgically removing the last 9 of the sea urchin spines

- 2 - the number of nudist beaches along the bay

- 2 - the number of nudist beaches I wish I could erase from my memory

Epic!
How many seasons to do all this?
I realize it's not the objective but did you consider doing Mud Island?

Did it this last season.

Started in the Spring 2012 with the westerlies - it was pretty easy to do Beaumaris to Rosebud with these winds.

Also Pt Cook to Ricketts was pretty easy in the summer seabreezes.

The western side of the bay was the most difficult. Had to wait for the March 2013 Easterlies to finish these sections.

Would like to have a crack at Mud Islands.

That is epic... is there anyway you can provide an interactive way of drilling down on those sessions?

Also, how many times did you find yourself suddenly caught without wind and stranded for some amount of time, if at all?

Fantastic stuff - inspirational. I've gotta give this a crack - I've covered most of the eastern side - never really ventured west. Fascinated that you went across the mouth of the bay across the heads - ballsy.

It looks like you did them all without actually just sticking to downwinders - the track logs look like you made heaps of round trips. Is that true ?

Where did you hit most of the sea urchins ? Never really hit any yet in 10 years of doing this so maybe I'm not going to the right (wrong !) spots.

Yes, they were all solo round trips, not downwinders.

Generally I would head upwind, cutting across the bay, where possible. Then return along the shore, slightly downwind.

On 3 of the legs, the wind died before getting all the way back to the launch spot. So there was a bit of swimming and walking on those 3 legs - probably around 6 kms all up.

Sea Urchin spines were around Pt Wilson. Corio Bay is very shallow, lots of seagrass, rocks, and sea urchins.

Great effort, well done. Were you wearing booties at all? Do you think they would reduce the risk of sea urchin spiking? What type of board did you use? How was it crossing the rip?

Yes, booties would have stopped the sea urchin spines.

Boards used were Sector V3 60 (Pt Melb, Rosebud, Queenscliff, Sunnyside legs), Slingshot Fuse (werribee south) and F One Fish (all other legs).

The Rip crossing was challenging. I made sure I crossed in strong winds (Easterly 23 knots) and the tide was on the turn. Crossing from Queenscliff to Pt Nepean was fine. From Pt Nepean to Pt Lonsdale was a bit trickier, albeit a short trip (2.5 km). It was a downwind leg, and a little gusty as the wind was coming from behind Pt Nepean, so I was extra careful not to drop the kite in the water. Despite the tide being on the turn, it was quite rough in places and perfectly smooth in others. There was quite a few small boats and yachts going out of the heads at the same time.

I have looked closely at the Rip - it looks really challenging - well done! Are you going to write up a full report? What are your next project(s)?
