Keen to give snowkiting a shot. I have been snowboarding for around 8 years and go to Queenstown every winter for a few weeks as the in-laws live there. We usually go in August but are going mid July this year for various reasons.

If anyone is going to be in the area mid July I will look at taking the kite gear. I worked at Snowpark in '06, so I know the Pisa pretty well and I have a mate who runs Southern Alps Sleds (SAS) so can get access to some fantastic terrain in the Southern Alps around Kingston.

Just need some company!

I would love to go.

Please advise on how to escape from the below:

1) What do i do with my 2 and 5 year old?
2) What can I say to my wife to make it seem like a good idea to go away for 2 weeks while she works and looks after kids and house?
3) What do I do about my 100 business emails per day?

Can I come over for 4 days?

If i can get that sorted count me in.

1) What do i do with my 2 and 5 year old? (send them to grannies or put them in a box for two weeks or wait until they have left home )
2) What can I say to my wife to make it seem like a good idea to go away for 2 weeks while she works and looks after kids and house? (I'm going on a holiday without you .the break will do us both the world of good )
3) What do I do about my 100 business emails per day? (check them each night .that is what I do )

Can I come over for 4 days? (sure)

If i can get that sorted count me in.

Hi Holly

I'd say that Aug will be the more likely for me (sorry yoshee) I will have been away for a cupla weeks in July plus Yoshees first week is school hols and that will be a bit tricky
.We will be hooking up with Tim Stockman and his crew from Christchurch as well www.kitesportz.co.nz
.Tim has been down there heaps and there will be people on hand to help people new to snowkiting to get the hang of things (you will be amazed how easy it is .Last year we took one of the guys from Newcastle who had never even seen snow but is a good kiter .We put him on the lifts for a day and he had a shocker .But the next day with kite in hand he was all over it

Likely dates 10 -22 AUG .For anyone who wants to make the most of twoo weekends and only one week off work we could make a pickup from Christchurch on 14th aug

OK

So here is the latest
Some Van prices http://www.campertravel.co.nz/campers.asp?home=yes&PICKUP_LOCATION=CHC&PickupDay_home=10&PickupMonth_home=Aug-2010&DROPOFF_LOCATION=CHC&DropoffDay_home=20&DropoffMonth_home=Aug-2010&V_TYPE=6&L_TYPE=INT#show_quotes

I have emailed them for availability Onsite powered sites are $18 per person per night .

The backpackers in the area look good with open fires drying rooms etc for $27 per night I am leaning towards that option, car rental www.gorentals.co.nz/Car-Details.aspx?VehicleId=26 so with insurance for 10 days $600 - $800 NZD for a rav 4 /subaru legacy 4 wd .

Currently fly out with Jetstar tues 10th return fri 20th Aug is less than $400 I am keen to book this soon so as I suspect that this is a great price that won't last

Il be over there boarding with some mates, i wasnt going to take my kite but i will if i meet up with your crew! we've hired a campervan and pick it up from christchurch on the 3rd August. go home on the 18th. let me know where you guys will be basically and il come find you. We plan on taking a few days to get to queenstown, party there for a few nights and see what happens. We've been a few times and cardrona and treblecone are our favourites.

Hey guys, looks like a great trip Mr float, My misses doesn't kite and is only a learner skier.
So would she have a good time?
Is there other things she could be doing while we kite??
Jet star flights, how much bagage? As kite plus snow board gear will way a bit??

G'day Dave

When it isn't windy we will be going to some great spots (Treble Cone ,Cardrona and maybe a couple of smaller fields in the Mackenzie which will be fun for all including non kiters .One of the spots Round hill is a great beginners area (lifts ) and is kiteable as well .Snow Farm is basically a cross country area but this could be a good opportunity for her to get her snow legs and maybe do a bit of towing .Jetstar flights are generally 20 kg limit . I'd suggest a 9 or 10 m kite and ski/board gear (maybe hire over there could be an option too ).wear as much gear onto the flight and get as much heavy /non bulky stuff (due to volumetric limit not just weight)stuff into your 7 kg cabin allowance

despite there being excellent conditions in NZ and a bit of interest there hasn't really been enough so at this stage I am thinking of canning this trip and maybe having a shorter hookup here in Australia over a 4 -5 day period with a weekend within it around the same time .See Thredbo hookup
