Me and a friend are waiting for a good forecast (more likely to come after winter but whatever) to go kiting double island point. Most blogs and websites talking about DIP say that a 4WD is required to get to the spot (Ideally, we'd kite on the lagoon). Does anyone know good 4WD Rental bargains around DIP/Noosa ? And btw, has anyone tried kiting there ? Any good/bad feedbacks ? How did you get to the spot ?

When conditions are right, there are few spots better on the east coast. That said, it's a bit of a hike if the conditions fail to eventuate. If you get to Rainbow, it's not that hard to hitch a ride on the beach to the point. The guys at the local surf school do regular runs there for lessons, tide dependant, they may be willing to give you a ride if they have room, it's amazing what a carton of beer can get you. Worse case scenario, I guess you could walk it in a couple of hours?

I'm based in Hervey Bay, so a bit further north than you're thinking. I've kited the sunny coast a fair bit, and had some ok sessions. Cotton tree can be crowded, so I'd try Noosa if you're confident in strong river runs, Northerly needed I think, but others can probably help out more with that. Southerly and I'd be looking at Caloundra area, ask the locals. In Northerlies it's still hard to beat DI in my opinion. We get great flat water here in the bay, though works best in a SE, there are numerous spots suitable for various winds and tides.

It's a great spot and there is a 4x4 hire place just as you drive into Rainbow bay area.
Just get the right wind direction.

I actually don’t mind sharing great kite spots. Just last time i went to DI the lagoon had closed over and become stagnant. smells like dead fish and full of stingrays
