I'm planning a trip to Queensland in late July/early August with my partner before bub arrives later in the year, and given I won't be doing much myself by that stage, I want to make sure he has fun, which means going somewhere that's good for kitesurfing (and surfing as a back up plan if the wind's no good). He's mostly a beginner, having just done a few lessons and just bought his own gear.

So, could you help me out with any ideas on where we should go? We'd be wanting to avoid the city mostly and it would be good if there's heaps of good cafes around too (to keep me happy).

Thanks,
Emily

North Queensland gets the trade winds in winter. Up to Cairns/ Port Douglas would be a good choice for both of you.

Port Douglas sucks. 30-35kn on Low Isle, 15kn on the beach. If its blowing S-SSE forget PD and head further north. If it comes more from the east(i.e. SE) then OK.
