I go to Fraser every year at this time, I'm also heading up on Sat 21st for a week and yes I'll be taking a kite and board. The thing with the eastern beaches is there are a lot of sharks, particularly while the tailor are running.
I've had a session or 2 around the Cathedrals but only at low tide sticking to the shallows, there is no way I personally would be heading out back of the breakers, but that's just me.
Last year I had a great session up at sandy cape near the lighthouse, tide was perfect and there is a nice little bay that formed a shallow lagoon. Also, on the western side there are options depending on wind direction.
I'll be taking a 2013 Zephyr just in case the opportunity arises, so of you see me out come say g'day

I was up the top end 2 weeks ago and saw a 4-5 meter grey in about 30cm of water just grovelling about eating up some small fisheys and half of his body was out of the water . I don't know about much but he could easily had a good chew on you . My kids were playing in around 1/2 a meter of water earlier and then they saw this and didnt go back in the water again . There were some real nice sets coming through and the wind was cross on and this was near waddy point . Good luck hope it all works out and don't become shark poo . No I didn't take kite as I new I would be tempted to go out and it was a weekend with the family trip .

Just had another look at the weather. Eastern beaches look like a no go with the northerlies coming. You could always head across to Wathumba Creek on the Western side. Anytime of the tide bar a couple of hours either side of low can work. The road across from Orchid Beach is the shortest if you're up that way, otherwise head in near The Maheno.

looking at google maps, would Orchard Beach work in a northerly? it looks the goods but just want to check.

Orchid Beach would be fairly cross shore in a N, maybe even slightly off. You'd be heading straight out through the slop to the gutters just offshore. Rather you than me. Wathumba would be the go, you could even kite right along the beach if the direction suits.

Did a DW little while back Orchid - Ocean Lake in a SE/ESE Probably works better the other way in a N/NE as the current heaves north along the gutter there, or try the lagoon/shallow gutters just north of Waddy. Bit sharkey but was more worried about getting slotted with a pilly and 5oz from the beach crew.....they don't see a lot of kiters up there.
