can anybody help me out with some good flat water speed spots to ride in south aus, around 500m to 1000m of flat water would be good.

I checked out the sand spit at Boggy Lake east today. Kited across from the old Boggy. Has potential and looks like it would work on a southerly or a WSW wind. Would have to launch from the old jetty area in a WSW.
Check it out here, the spit is between the red dots.

In todays southerly there was a low rolling chop comming in from the main lake which made the runs to the west a bit wobbly, but I was only on my sol.
A wsw or even sw might be the go.

One thing I noticed is the area at the end of the track by the old jetty is not kite friendly. There looked to be a clearish area 200m or so to the east that might be big enough to rig and launch, hopefully without too many dramas.
Otherwise its kite across from the old Boggy, but I'm not real keen on riding a directional speed board backwards that far.
PS just saw there is a low tide sat and sunday at Parham ....decisions...decisions.

rumour has it that wallaroo north beach has some sweet channels when the tide is coming in, maybe if you wear your mx gear it could be on for some speed records. I also heard stansbury has a spit which produces some good flat water.

If that sand spit curves around to the south, which it looked like it might, it should work on a wnw. Have to see what the forcast is on Sat night. Could be keen if ok.

try Point Arthur if speed is your thing. Its right near the top of the gulf and about 2 hrs drive fropm adelaide. No facilities.
It is wide open to the S - SE summer winds, which grow quite strong as they get channelled up the gulf. about 2000m across of knee deep water over mud, capped with soft weed that stops everything but the slightest "speed" ripple. Go at mid to low tide, best at 50-70cm tide. The wind is as steady as it gets and yet the water remains mirror flat in spots.
The whole place stinks though.....At high tide it is as choppy as anywhere so you will have a 3-5 hour window to get that new speed record, but I reackon it is world class as a speed destination.

Anyone else tried it??

I wouldn't strongly recommend Wallaroo north beach unless the channels have grown. there is also a 5kt speed limit on half the beach (basically anywhere in front of the houses).

Hi Colin,
Thanks for the tip on Point Arthur, will check it out this summer and hopefully pull some "world class' speeds there. I like the sound of those "speed" ripples.

will look forward to the reports.
And the mud really does smell so take someone elses car. It looks ****house in the wrong conditions so give it a chance to show itself.
