Hey all. In 3 weeks time I've got uni holidays coming up and pretty keen to explore some spots outside of adelaide for kiting. so.. any hidden awesome flat water spots?

So far, I've been to whyalla, parham, lake george & milang (with the last two being quite gusty though)

Cheers!! elise

there is also:

Murray Mouth
Boggy
Goolwa Lake

all of these are considered to be intermediate to advanced spots though and require certain level of experience. So depending on your current skill level you may want to leave them for the next season.

There are some very good spots on the EP, if you are willing to drive that far (further than Whyalla that is).

You should contact the locals if you are thinking about doing that.

Parham on a 0.5 - 0.8m tide with a N or Nw wind - bit of a walk out to the water but quite often it is glass in these conditions. I've heard boggy lake is good for it but as mentioned above it does require good skills to kite safely there.

This picture was taken at Thompsons Beach - Just up from Parham. Flat enough for ya? :)

PS: I'm pretty sure it is Chaps in the photo too

+1 for Thompsons beach. Not far from Pazza. Just turn off at Dublin instead of after it. Great place but not that great for walking out. It is real muddy. Everytime I have been there though I have had the whole beach to myself, bar a few crabbers...and glass like water.

Yep that's me in that photo but it's at Parham. Kited Thompsons a couple of times but never in glassy conds.

Parham when it's like glass us surreal, well worth it if the conditions are right.

Thanks guys, much appreciated.

yeah I've been to parham, but not to Thompsons, is there a particular tide height/wind direction that works best here?

chaps, I am REALLY keen for some road trippin over summer with whoever feels like joining haha!

Dagodfather, yeah I have been at boggy lake, not at the other two though. I only bought my gear in august, making me a total noob:P so probably best if I leave them for a while (or at least tag along with some very experienced kiters)

keep the spots coming or even share some pics/vids of your favourite places to kite in SA

I reakon Pt Parham (when the Pt Adelaide tide is around 0.8 to 1.0m) is hard to beat, especially on a really hot day. Some reakon the baking seaweed releases oil, which makes the water dead flat at that height. You're often kiting over weed and sand in only 10- 40cm of water, but there's always the deeper channel.

Whatever the case, all you can hear are the bubbles from your board on the slick water- it sounds and feels awesome!

If the wind is right, and the tide is dodging at that level, those conditions can persist for hours, but often a bit of tide is useful to give the seabreeze a boost. Many days you can experience something like it for a short period until the tide builds.

Cheers, Brian

Elise,

If you want to explore some new spots u could do a trip over a few days hitting up Parham or Thompsons on the way to the Yorke Peninsula. There are some magic spots over there such as Sultana Point at Edithburgh, Chinamans Well on the other side of the Peninsula across from Ardrossan. All up and down that coast there are some great flat water spots to be had. Its definitely worth taking a few days and just going exploring, c what you can find.

Scored a sweet session at Parham a couple of weeks ago and as Brian said its a sweet sound!! Walked out to the channel and was all we had for about 200 metres. kited a solid two hours as the tide came in and ended up with 40 cm of perfect waters over the weed and sand and about 20knots constant the whole time.
You won't regret it if you get the timing right

All those ideas sound very good. Pretty keen to do something along the lines of what rooboy suggested after I finish my exams.

I know a few people who would probably b interested for road tripping up the coast, so whoever wants to tag along is welcome. Just send me a pm with your phonenumber and I'll let you know of some dates :)

Bring on the wind!!!
