Myself and a mate are thinking of hitting up the mid coast on sunday as it looks like there could be some wind and wave height. I normally kite on the northern beaches and have only tried Seaford once. So I am after some advice on where and when would be good for Sunday, considering wind waves and tides.

Cheers

The Hump This is at Southport.

You have to walk across the footbridge to get there. go right from the surf club.

River mouth could also be a good spot.

Seaford will be good as well. May not be much beach. Makes for intersting self landing.

Moana beach will also be good. Should be huge

There will be some crew around on Sunday at the mid.

We will see what happens on the day.

Come join in the fun. Should be epic if the forcast stays the same.

The mid is great spot, but watch the narrow beach on high tide at Seaford. Here's a couple of pics I took when a northerly was blowing.

If its westerly the mid can be tricky getting out the back for new players in a big swell. With the amount of swell around, Seacliff could be on for a wave as long as it gets a bit of southerly in it.
PM me Friday and give you the best options for a Sunday wave session.

Cheers Croc :-)

Looks like the Wall or Seaford Bay the go for the next couple of days.

Gulf Waters:
Friday until midnight : Winds: Northerly 10 to 15 knots tending north to
northwesterly 15 to 20 knots south of Cowell to Aldinga during the morning.
Seas: 1 to 1.5 metres. Swell: Southwesterly 0.5 to 1 metre over southern Spencer
Gulf.
Saturday : Winds: Northerly 15 to 20 knots increasing to 20 to 25 knots by dawn
then increasing to 20 to 30 knots during the morning. Winds tending north to
northwesterly 25 to 35 knots during the afternoon. Seas: 1 to 2 metres
increasing to 2 to 3 metres during the morning. Swell: Southwesterly up to 1
metre.
Sunday : Winds: Northwest to westerly 20 to 30 knots, reaching 25 to 35 knots
south of Cowell to Port Wakefield, turning southwesterly in the afternoon and
easing to 20 to 30 knots throughout in the evening.

I am going to be down seaford way Sunday, so I will check out Seaford bay. Not sure if I will end up hitting the water if it is over 30 knotts. 25 knotts is the highest wind I have been out in and I am thinking incrimental increases is the way to go. Hope to see a few guys out there to better judge the conditions. Big wind big swell could go either way.......

Moana is for my money the safest and best place on the Mid for the conditions....

8.45 down here at the mid and its blowin its tits off - at least 30 knots. Dont believe the seabreeze wind charts - that must be inland Noarlunga I reckon. I live on the coast. Already there is a bit of west in it but the BOM charts say its going to go straight north before it swings early afternoon. Wind strength peaks at midday. Anyone planning a trip down? Experienced only today I would say!

POP.

I'll probably go for a drive down that way this afternoon for a look. Not sure if I'll hit the water yet, will assess the situation when I get there.

POP.

The wind meter for Noarlunga is near the South Road/Expressway junction. About as useful as a kite with a puncture in every bladder....

yikes!
i wasnt game to even use my 3.5m trainer in the 60-70km/h winds here, but mainly because its only rated upto 34km/h.
(probably more a kite/line strength issue than an overpower issue)
my other option... a 14m... ummm, no!

hope everyone who went out today had a fun, safe time.

A few lads did a downwinder from chicken shop to Henley.
Got half way and the wind came in at about 35knots. Never been so uneasy on a kite.
Hope everyone had a safe day

Thanks for the advice guys.

I decided the discretion was the better part of valour, and didn't hit the water.

I guess I will se what the next fron brings

I think you made a very wise choice, as the wind actually got to 50 knots at the airport! Some gusts can be up to 40% stronger. If you had a small kite earlier, it would have been great, especially at the Wall.

Yes, conds seemed quite gusty to say the least. Was happy to watch a couple kites in onshore conds at Seacliff before inspecting the rest of the coast. Semaphore jetty looked like it was copping a hammering coming up to high tide - if ever there was an easy option for jumping it, it would've been this arvo but for the dodgy wind.

Fun session at moana once the sw kicked in with Tino, Backflip and p o p. Then a thumping squall came through and made for some interesting times. Got some sweeeet waves, well worth the effort :-). Frothing for the next big front, I love winter.
