Not Bad! Try sheeting out after you have dived your kite when water starting so your kite will fly back up and generate some constant pull rather than oversheet looking for the power which will stall the kite. Once you are up and planing you can lean back a bit..

Thanks for the advice :D
Would you mind telling me what is "sheeting out"?? English is my second language so I don't know some terms :P

You can generate power in two ways, one is with sheeting the kite in and the other is with flying the kite so it is moving through the wind window. When you get up and planing, the apparent wind also gives you more power. Most beginners in light wind have trouble getting planing on the water. They can pull themselves out of the water but then just sheeting the kite in doesn't give them enough power to get planing so they sink again - usually with a poo stance just like your photo. So, dive the kite in, sheet in a little to pull yourself up but then don't keep pulling the bar towards you or you may find the kite is stalling. This happens when the wind is light. You will find the kite will rise up better again if it is sheeted out a little and once you get the kite moving you will find the power to get yourself trimming along.

Good luck..

Keep it in the sweet spot!

Before I go out on the board, I sometimes body drag for a bit and purposefully pull the bar all the way in to see if I can oversheet and stall the kite.

You will know that the kite is stalling because you wont feel much power from the kite and if you let the bar out a little, it will power up. Or it will simply fall backwards out of the sky and land on its trailing edge.

If I start to feel that the kite is oversheeting, I pull on a bit of depower and test it again.

Once it stops doing this, I can then pull the bar all the way in to get maximum power without stalling the kite.

The other thing I check for is if the kite can fly too far forwards out of the window and falling forwards out the sky "hindenburg".

That means my front lines are too short and I can either let out my depower to increase the front line length or if there is nothing more to gain from the depower rope, I land the kite and tighten up the back lines by moving them up a knot on the kite.

This will then allow me to let go of the bar without the kite sheeting out too much and falling forwards and out of the sky.

Its all about correctly rigging your lines and testing the rig setup prior to going out.

Then I get my board and have a blast!

Don't know if what I have said is correct, (and please let me know if not as I am still on the beginner side of intermediate) but that is what I do.

I also have noticed alot of people launching their kite while pointing away from the water. Through the Windsup Kite School, we were taught to have the kite launched towards the water as if it powers up, it will pull you towards the sea and not into the sand dunes, houses and people.

Not trying to have a go at anyone who does it differently as these people have been kiting alot longer than I but I think the logic behind launching and landing towards the water is sound and wanted to share a bit of advice I was given.

Hope that helps and sorry for the long post... its kind of quiet at work at the moment!

Luke.

hahahaha quite here too mate... thanks for sharing your experience... I'll try next time what you just explained...

Launching towards the water makes more sense as you put it. I have no counter argument to what you're saying. Perhaps other experienced kiters could have an opinion on this topic. I was taught to launch the kite pointing away from the water, no explanation given (I think that launching the kite in this way the distance that you have to walk to the water is shorter, therefore you spend less time on dry land flying the kite). They just told me to keep it low (between 2 and 3) and avoid keeping the kite at 12 o'clock for too long (I got my lessons at Largs Bay, SW wind) to prevent getting lofted. When I launch my kite I try to take it as soon as possible pointing the water (between 10 and 11, again Largs Bay SW wind)...

Nah, it looks as though your just hooking back in after a big trick, kites low and no witness mark from the massive pop you had.

Seriously though set your hips forward and straighten your back and arms, you want to look like the number 7 rather then the letter C

Been kitting in Melbourne of late, around Altona. Plenty of Pooh in that water seeing a dolphin swim by in Adelaides northern beaches is a lot more plesant that what goes by in Port Phillip Bay.
