Like it Coastflyer. I'm thinking I'll drop by Boggy and Milang tomorrow just to have a look again. I was down there 10 days ago and it looked awesome (refer other post).

I'm dreaming of a 2011 Milang Goolwa but the Clayton weir may be a slight obstacle... Perhaps the Milang sailing club could do some form of yacht/cat/sailboard/kite race; could even do windsurfers v kiters!?
Either way, great to have the water back.

Visited Boggy and Milang today. Devastated that I didn't have a kite on me as both had awesome wind which is unusual for northerlies.

Boggy looks as good as it ever has. You can vaguely make out that old fence in the photo below (apologies but iphone camera) and it's well underwater. Even nicer as much of the old saltbush is gone and replaced by grass so a little more room for launching. There is still the acidification sign up on the gate so will have to do some investigation but it referred mostly to exposed mud which is now all covered up.




Milang is now pretty well full and all of the jetty legs are underwater so launching is now restricted to the grassy knoll...
The boat ramp is deep enough to launch a boat and water is about a foot from the top of the jetty. If the crane wasn't there, the jetty could be a large slider...

Chap, thanks for the pics, mate! Today (Friday), channel 7 news are running a story on the lakes, including the bulldozers moving in early next week to cut a channel through the regulator at Clayton, and let the water flow. Keep in mind that the huge amount of water from the Victorian floods is still some weeks away, so the lakes will definitely fill. I have sailed in many freshwater classics on my old Bic Bamba race board, desperately trying to keep up with guys like Mike Duffeid, and my dream is to do it on a kite. It would be interesting to get the Goolwa regatta clubs view on all this as the Milang-Goolwa was a huge money spinner for them, as well as the Milang township, where I and many others, camped out and generally had a great time! I still remember many years ago partying on at the Milang pub to the Zep boys, and then completing the race the next day with a hangover, in just under 2 hours!

Umm! I think I got a bit excited about the possibility of the Milang-Goolwa race being held next January. I just saw the 10 news and it is the Narung weir that is to be opened, not the Clayton one. I rang the Goolwa Regatta Club and they expect the Clayton regulator to be opened in approx 2 months, and that they hope to run the race in a reduced form, on the Australia day long W/E, next year. Either way, thanks to Chap investigating, Boggy lake is a goer now. Sea breeze season is only 3-4 weeks away, can't wait!!
