Has anyone tried Murray Mouth in NE wind? Is it worth doing or too gusty/give it a miss?
Any of the locals?

I'm just trying to find some alternatives for this weekend - with the current forecast showing NE wind on Sunday:

Not really. It would be offshore at the normal car park launch point, so making your way over to the mouth side would be your best bet. A better place to launch from would be the Goolwa channel near the Regatta club or the bay at Milang, which is now full of lovely fresh water!

If it is a north east, I would be going to Milang. Good flat water and generally nice smooth air!

What about up around North Haven? with a northerly, you would get the full extent of the wind but be sheltered by the sea wall. Need your SAKSA Tags though!

Short answer is no. Mouth is horrendously gusty on northerlies.

Ne is dead off shore at north haven, so ya wanna be careful with that. Does anyone know if robe/beachport is dooable in ne? Perhaps lake George?

Point Sturt at the first turn off. Not as flat as Milang but less gusty with NE.

... the Goolwa channel near the Regatta club ...

This sounds tempting, as there are facilities there such as Aquacafe = can bring friends&family, but Goolwa lake is gusty at the best of times and probably even worse in a NE-ly?

Chap is this the turnoff you're referring to? Is this a private road?

I should have written first 'spot' rather than 'turnoff'. From Milang, turn left on the bitumen turnoff to Pt Sturt. After Yelland Rd, there's another turnoff on the left where the water is visable from the main road. There's a small car track to an open flat there that's big enough to launch but it'll be pretty shallow for about 100m close to shore so best to head out a bit... Alternatively head straight down to the end (Pt Sturt itself) and it still works in NE. Just don't go due east of the point as there are submerged rocks.
