I haven't tried a foil yet, but I spent all last summer kiteing where this foil was designed and tested, and I watched lots of kiters go out for the first time with it. All the talk was positive, easy and forgiving to learn on. Then you need to upgrade the wings once you figure it all out. For the price, I don't see how you could go wrong. It's a little heavier then carbon, of course.

2k for that design? I'd rather go for the Sroka one, same price but the design looks way more refined.

Hey husa, I had a bit of a spin on it at Mambo. As an entry level foil it ticks all the boxes and for less than 2k with a board its a good deal! (especially considering you can sell your 17m kite ;) It's easy to get up on and ride around, just give it some time as foiling is something quite different so you wont be foiling around much on your first try. Experience with directionals helps tho. Also its built strong which is great so you don't have to worry about your friends breaking it when you turn up to the beach and everyone wants to give it a go.

The downside is that it is very heavy (made with aluminium) and the board doesn't have enough volume IMO so when I stacked I got a bit of a sinking feeling when the nose went under (no big drama tho). Its not the best design for a foil board but since you have the ability to use it as a surfboard its an alright compromise. Also if you really get into foiling you would be wanting to upgrade the wings to something a bit faster, but I heard they plan on bringing out more wings eventually which you can use with the same mast and fuselage which is nice. It is modular so it'll pack down small which is a bonus as well for travelling.

Lastly I would say it needs a stabiliser fin (especially for learning). Like a twin tip fin above the rear foil to give it better directional stability. I would Araldite one on if I owned one :)

I would also have a look at the MHL Lift foils (no affiliation) which are probably the best entry level carbon foil. I have only heard great things about their foils and boards. Being lighter they would be a bit easier to travel with (weight allowance wise) and with a specific foil board with more volume would probs be a bit nicer to ride.

Given that LF listed their first design requirement as a foil board that is easy to ride - you are always going to find a better one.

Personally I've not had a go at foiling, I am keen. I do know a lot about hydro dynamics and what you have linked to with very high aspect wings will be very fast and from what I read, very hard to ride.

I think LF will hit a market with this, from all reports it is heavy but also quite tough which for me is very important. It has huge wings which should (confirmed above) have it foiling at much slower speeds and will be far less sensitive to rider input, making it easier to learn on. The modular design also means that once the rider is confident, the wings can be replaced with fast more responsive wings - you could even travel with several sets to use as conditions dictate.

The idea looks a winner to me.

The foil just arrived in shop this morning! Looks awesome can't wait to have a go. Like Chwar said we are having a demo on the 28th of December.

I think Gorgo really hit it on the head. We all know (as does LF) that this is not the highest performance foil on the market. It is meant to be easy to ride, cheap, durable, and fun. It most certainly will be all of these things. Like I said, it's $1995 for everything you see and yes the Kite Fish can be used as a stand alone surfboard. Really good value and a great way to get into this awesome aspect of the sport.

So the question that remains unanswered is...

had my first go on the LF foilfish today..

the most scared ive been kiting for ages.

Ive also had a go on the Carafino from "theZu".
felt the LF was easier, and i could get going in both directions, upwind and down.

still at the scared as **** stage, with small flights and dolphin jumps.

Here is a hot tip, don't set your foil up like the boys in NZ.

Not much has been said about the LF fish board. It's a great board on its own. It's the only board I've ridden for the last 3 years. It's a bit heavier then most boards, but it's great in all conditions and it can take a beating. It's also easy to travel with. So this board, with the foil, really can do it all.
