Hi, im after another kite (own cab’s), have been looking at a North Rebel or slingshot rev to ride in Melbourne and Perth, mostly in chop and flat water a little surf, just getting into riding un-hooked. Can some one recommend which is the best option, dose the 08 rebel have as much de-power as the 4 line rev?
Thanks
Andrew
Andrew, I suggest trying both. Both kites were very well liked for the 2008 season. You might find that the Rebel having no bridals is a little nicer for unhooked/natural "C" kite feel. It would be a personal preference thing between those two kites though, visit your local dealer(s) and test their demo kites (preferably on the same day).
Good luck,
JB
i got both - the rev more c kite in flying, move the kite and it puts out some sweet power in the turns, where the rebels a park and ride as it turns more on its axis and doesnt produce any power in its turns - i think the rebel has more depower than the rev. both have fantastic low end. if you like norths bar setup and single pump ectra and want more c type feel try the 08 vegas, bottom end isnt that good as the rebel or rev but top end is fantastic, great for wave riding and ripping off the water jumping kite. my fav out of the three kites with rev coming close second and rebel third.
try all three as they are diff and it might be the bar setups and other little things like puleys versus 5th lines that will make you pick one over the other.
Hey Picker I have a 13m SS Rev and have also flown a mates 12m North Rebel quite a few times and I reckon the Rebel has more bottom end grunt then the Rev. Also found that the Rebel turns quicker then the Rev. The Rev has a much better bar set up, but has pulleys (I hate pulleys) on the bridle. Rev also has the simplicity of 4 lines.
They both unhook rougly the same, though I believe the Rebel is a tad more stable then the Rev in the air.
I am actually looking at getting a 12m 08 Rebel to replace the Rev as the Rev has fallen apart on me.
The rev gets its power from kite speed and turns. I thought it lacked bottem end when I first flew the 13 too, but its deceiving. Because of the light bar pressure it feels like there is no power there, but once you get your board speed and kite speed up you can then just park the kite and cruise.
The same goes in the really light stuff when the light wind board is needed.
