Hey All,

I have just started getting into unhooked tricks. I am seen a lot of riders connecting there leash to the chicken loop. Like this....

The problems with this is if i knock my emergency release on the chicken loop i will loose my kite completely!

The other options are to connect to the "Safety Line" or "5th Line" but then the kite will loose all power and i will drop like a stone but i would not loose my kite.

I could also connect to the depower rope and only depower the kite to the max depower setting. I would still be 90% powered up if i let go and still not loose my kite.

I have not seen anyone doing this but could i connect my leash to this point here...

I would then still have full power and if i hit the release i would still be attached to my kite....

Does anybody ride with this setup? I notice the pro's all ride attached to the chicken loop but they can afford to loose their kite or have boat support to get it for them. Us normal kiters dont have this available to us. So i am thinking this is the next best option to the Chicken loop connection point. Any ideas??

Cheers....

Finchy

Yes you can ride with the Safety around the centre line, but if the kite goes all bad youll be deep in it especially attchching the safety to your back. Another option is to get another C-ring or De-clip thingy the one with the screw thread do it wont come off and attach it to your normal Blue safety or 5th line and then attach it to your chicken loop. Attach your safety to this. Your kite wont die wafter a crashed jump and your saftey will QR will still depower the kite completely. I hope the explanation was not too complicated. Ill try and find you a photo. This is something similar from the best bar 2012. Notice the front ring can pull through the chicken loop if engaged and flag out properly. The 1st piccy does not show the front ring running through the chicken loop, but the ring has a larger diameter then the ball at the end, it works....

Make sure whater ring you put on is of a larger diameter, and is a cheap and easy modification that will work on most bars.

Try hooking through the 5th line ring and the chicken loop at the same time ,thats what the guys round here do,so if you knock the loop release itll just haul in the 5th line, also it holds the clip out of the way for hooking back in.

Are you sure you'd still have so much power if the leash pulled out all your trim/ depower? I tend to clip into the depower strap on my Naish bar after launching (where I always leave it clipped onto the mini 5th/ front line flagging).

^^^^^ If you pull on the safety line it makes your kite out of wack, especially if it runs through a front line. My suggestion, and only a suggestion does not change the safety line as the extra metal provides enough length to do just what you are replying about. I think there actually called D-shackles with a screw in safety, can be bought from any boat shop.

Thanks to all! I have found a 100% workable and cheap solution! I stole a pigtale of an old bar and the a solid stainless steel ring of the old safety line. Connected it to the current "Front Line" or "5th Line" and presto... Now i can unhook and not loose my kite if i hit the release + the leash wont get it the way when i try to hook back into the chicken loop...its all good!

^^^ that's a good solution.

I don't get if though - if you're unhooking and riding suicide (eg leash connected to the chicken loop or some other connection point not connected to the flagging line) then you don't actually have the option of quick release anyway. In other words, why would you hit the QR if you are on suicide? That's the whole point; suicide = no QR.

Its just a safer setup in case you accidentley hit the QR in the middle of a trick,

I thought a few here might of picked up that in this setup if you are riding hooked in and you release the safety your kite will flag to the mini 5th line but will still be connected to your spreader bar as the whole loop comes away from the release.
The release on your leash will then be useless as it's all connected to your spreader bar.
I would just put it on the mini 5th while on the beach and once on the water connect it above the release. The biggest problem though will be the increased ware on the depower rope and possibly bending the shackle as it's pulling on an angle.

^^^good spot turtle could be a problem,my chicken loop stays attached to the main rig and releases at the side and the clip slides off and activates the 5th line so may not work as good with this setup.

My mate used to ride with flexifoil atoms 09' This setup will be great, as I used to have to go out and find his chicken loop many times which could fall off in the water without the donkey dick attached. Not cool when you drive all the way to exmouth and on the second day, the'd lost both his chicken loop and his spare. I gave up on finding it after a half an hour, and then hey presto, there it was, as the water is so clear. I modified his setup to exactly the same dafinchy did.
