Can any one give me some advice on what to do when kite comes down in surf and wave takes kite which then pulls you under the water!
I got to the stage that i was thinking i might have to QR because i was running out of breath but did not want to because i did not want the kite to take of up the beach by its self . I did not end up using QR i was just able to stand up .
It made me think that if i was in deeper water i would have to QR is this what you have to do or is there any other tricks for this problem ?

I'm guessing if you were in deeper water you probably wouldn't have the wave to worry about......Also if you were going to drown I doubt you would worry about the hassle brought on by a QR.

Its happened to me a few times and Ive used the kite to pull me out by guessing the 12 oclock position.

if a kite drops in the surf and a wave catches it you should pull the QR straight away. IF you don't chances are you'll be walking out of the water with 2 kites. Pull the QR so it takes all the pressure off the kite. I saw a kite get caught in some small waves at Altona and the guy held onto and ended up snapping one of his lines. Surprised he didn't rip the canopy

why would the kite take off up the beach? You should still be attached to your kite through your leash after pulling the QR

as the big eeezzzzee said pull your release as soon as the wave begins dragging your kite........ unless you like buying new ones.

even a small 2ft wave will rip a kite apart.

oh - and do not drop it in the water in the first place.

It may sound flippant, but is rule 1 through to 5 in wave kiting. Avoid dropping the kite under any circumstance. A kite down in wave zone is bad news and it will only take few times or less and you will end up with a damaged kite. It gets expensive real quick.

if you fall off in the wave zone, head the kite seawards. otherwise, wave pushes you toward kite, slack lines, kite drops guess where

if i remember correctly a square meter of water weighs 1 tonne. Thats a lot of extra stress being put though the canopy and it will definitely find the weakest point and go right through it

1 CUBIC meter = ~1.03t of sea water dependent on how salty the water is

Ooh that hurts when I think

Dropped a kite in big swell and got the best flogging of my life. The kite decided to go to the bottom with me attached. Too late on the QR and everything loaded up with all the water pressure I couldn't release the kite. My eyes were the size of dinner plates as I watched the kite go to the bottom. Closest I've ever come to seeing God. Finally got rolled down the face of the second wave and the kite poped up. Lost both kite and board that day but lived to tell the tale
