safest aproach is to try unhooked i believe. then you can just leave the kite and the height you will drop is low. If you hooked and jumpo try , going wrong may result on broken rib etc. Try a standar unhookep pop kiteloop to get the feel of the kite.

If you plan on trying hooked then i believe best thing is to do the kiteloop and peak of the jump when you just going down. That will give the kite less power

do the biggest jump you can off a wave. near the peak of you jump, unhook and pull on the backside of the bar (so he kite keeps going in the same direction) and then hold on.

Start small and work your way up. A 9-10m kite or smaller is easier to start out on in light/medium conditions. Bigger kites won't turn fast enough to catch you before you hit the water. Assuming you know when the kite makes its power when you downloop it during a transition, then just start out by top looping or down looping as your coming down from a jump. It'll give you a little bit of power and get you used to landing with a little bit of speed.

If your travelling left foot forward then the way i explain it is to send the kite back from 10:30 past 12, then with the bar pulled in, crank on your back hand as it approaches 1. As the kite will actually loop on the opposite site of the wind window, it'll give you a little bit of power but it won't be violent. You can use that as a transition and add a backroll in for a backroll kiteloop. As you get used to it, you can go to a small jump and initiate the kiteloop from earlier and earlier until your pulling the trigger on the loop from ~11:30-12 when your on the way up for a jump. That'll send the kite through the middle of the window and pull quite hard.

Unhooked kiteloops are a bit different. Start out in really light wind and just unhook, fishpole the kite on the back hand side of the bar, go to load up for a railey and pop just before the kite rips you off the water.

Oh, and as always the Progression DVD's are top notch for explaining kiteloops and how to work your way up to them.

Koma, as always solid advice.

I have a few words to add: In the review section you just posted a request for kite suggestions and state that you're a beginner with "no idea on which one to choose." Which are you, a troll, or a beginner? If you're a troll, you'l be dealt with swiftly, and if you're a beginner, wait a while before contemplating loops.

This is perfect advice. one other thing to remember is if your going to loop then make sure you commit and dont try and pull out on the way through the loop cause you will more than likely get spanked. I found it alot easier to learn hooked in and to underloop on a transition in light to moderate wind.

Watch this, the first 2 megaloops landed with downloop to transition are one of the safest ways to loop, but you need to be competent enough to go that big and cool headed enough to downloop the landings or you will hit hard and risk injury.

Just some friendly advice I learned.. I had my kite flip and generally if my lines are twisted load/steering wrapped I can still fly. I will go out try to come back in and land at beach.. This time I was not thinking.. I downlooped my kite to make power and twisted my lines beyond belief.

Do not do this!

I will POAST some video later of the kitecam how badly things went and had to body drag in. Yet no self rescue

Looking forward to seeing the vid as your comment made no sence. Are you saying you set up your lines twisted and launched and instead of fixing straight away, under looped and tried to keep going. Why?

And no they were not twisted till I got out in the water and knocked my kite out of the sky and it started rolling.

When I launched off the beach I dragged out, waited for the guy who was upwind of me to get out of the way.. Apparently he got caught in a lull with too little wind as I was following him out and had to stop.. His kite flew towards mine I steered my kite away from his with a extreme overcorrection knocking my kite out of the sky the kite flipped the lines inside out. In my mind this is better than collisions of kites at least I got mine relaunched.

Anybody who is familiar with Maui knows that going in immediately is not the easiest thing to do.. Stated simply put that people who are launching have right of way so I was able to fly the kite. My steering lines were wrapped around load lines. This was not a first to deal with this I have seen it many times due to kiting in bad wind. The image attached shows a different time it occurred.

I am one who uses self rescue as a last resort. Regardless of what might be thought the kite flys (abit like crap) but it flys. So I got caught in a lull and started doing down loops to try to keep going and make it back to the beach. Needless to say it failed made the kite nearly unsteerable.. Crashed kite in water mostly untangled and body dragged in way downwind..

Had the problem occurred on the beach or where I could have gotten back without interfering with people I would have done that.

Here is a video too of previous time.

Either you inverted your kite meaning when it was on the water it rolled over twisting either side lines around each other but from your video it looks like your lines where twisted together as though you had looped the kite and not spun the bar to correct. ?

As Jas73 said thhis usually occurs when the kite rolls through the lines or inverts. It is actually quite easy to fix whilst on the water ( if competent )

I usually depower first, fly my kite to 12 grab about 1/2 metre up the middle lines or trim strap ( now the kite has next to no power in it ) and then unhook.... now thread the bar through the front lines either through the top or from the bottom ( which ever way required depending on which way the kite rolled ) then hook back in and you are away.

ITs risky because if you let go of your kite ..thats it you can keep your suicide leash on whilst you do it but it does tend to get in the way and cause more issues.

it is also far easier if you can stand up and do it whilst the kite is on the water,
