I actually was going up wind for a bit of the time and almost made it up to where the wave action was .the wind died off and that was it tho and yes going upwind was tricky but the wind was bloody light

Donnas are useful when remote............but 3 of them, what a logistical nightmare!......but some sick determination and look what can be done.

the logistics actually weren't too bad and they behaved quite nicely .I also got slightly lofted when I walked past a row of trees and the uplift going over the trees turned them into a paraglider

Mr Float, my comments were not directed at you, far from it. You are one of a very small number of people on this forum who have the experience across both foils & inflatos who can make valid comparisons about what each style of kite has to offer.
My comments were directed at the ‘less well educated’ kiters on the forum who don’t have the slightest bit of knowledge or experience of foils, yet continue to offer various uninformed, ignorant comments about foils but wouldn’t know the first thing about foils.

And in reference to my unsightly recent experience Ben, you mightn’t have been far off….

I see the winter angst rot is growing daily. Was wondering when the seasonal foil bashing threads would appear.

Hey Juddy - I am keen to try your PL one day. I was tempted to buy a PL Gorrilla back in the day. The wind range (vast compared to LEI at the time) was seductive. Never got round to trying one but have always wondered..

lighten up .Read my post again .You will hopefully realise that my comment was directed at the yesterdays hero lameos that seem to get some purile enjoyment out of bagging (taking the piss out of ) pillows/doonas and think that it is hilariously funny when it is just quite sad really..

hated the Gorilla, got onto the Venom- not a bad kite for its time- pretty fun kite....I rode one for a season then went back to inflatos, each to their own i reckon.....

Four in fact but only 3 get flown now. Started out on 2005 Venom 13m, picked up a 2007 Venom 10m ‘mark II’. Last season was on Synergy 12 & 8m. Even though it’s 1m smaller the difference is remarkable.

The 13 has been relegated to the back corner, probably not likely to come out again any time soon but, you know, your first kite…just can’t bring myself to throw it away.

In the last 5 years I have flown PL:
-In Cyclone surf
-Flatwater (big f.....ng woop)
-Big downwinders like Narra-Bronte past the cliffs of Nth and Sth head
-Across the Greenland icecap
-Across the sea ice of Canada
-Up and down Mt Kosciuscko and off Kosciuscko cornice
-I have shredded them in the deep backcountry of the Norweigan mountains on 2 week long solo missions, stitched 'em up in the tent at night with surgical sutures then flown them the next day.
-And yes, I have slept under them (When my -20 sleeping bag couldn't hack -40 in Greenland)

Every one of them a PL Venom. Check my photos for proof of the Doona thing.

Maybe I could be bothered learning how to fly them and I was hungry? whatever...they worked well for me.

Yeh, I have largely moved on with my kite choice, but these kites rocked the last 5 years of my life, why don't you blokes get one? (not talking 'bout a PL)

Pat you are a 1st rate kook that has been forever biased becasue a PL doona saved your life .the fact that you are reading this and posting here proves that also ( ps check out the thread re "interesting kite like winter sport")

Ps for those who have apreference for pump ups (like your tues night love thingy) we have started testing speedkiting with inflatable kites

Do you want to have a crack at converting the big old flysurfer I have for sale here into one? (speedkite that is, Not a doona! Ha! Ha! Ha!) We could open up the leading edge if nescessary. The slope from Nth Ramshead down to Swampy plain river should be perfect for that sort of stuff
